MANILA, Philippines - The trends seen on spring/summer 2013 runways couldn’t be more diverse: with influences spanning the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘90s, there were trends referential enough that you could try them out by rummaging through the back of your closet (or your mother’s), while others were updated to look more current. By all means, we here at YStyle would never recommend that you be a slave to trends by trying everything out, but if you are interested enough, accessories are the easiest way to try a trend out and incorporate it into your existing wardrobe. For this issue, we scoured our most favorite stores to shop in and scoped the top three summer accessories trends, as seen on their shelves and on the runways.
Buzzing like neon
Neon nails were all the rage last year and from what we’ve seen from Simone Rocha, Christian Dior, Rag and Bone, House of Holland and even Oscar de la Renta, pops of flouro are here to stay. In order to look like a bright spot for sore eyes (instead of an eye sore), mix neutral colors with hints of neon.
Tropic thunder
Proenza Schouler, Isabel Marant and Kenzo featured island girls in Hawaiian and Eastern prints. Now wearing floral and tropical-inspired prints may seem a little on-the-nose for summer, but only if you attempt it from head-to-toe. Along with these prints, we also spied some Mexican-inspired influences, along with micro-floral prints in local stores that’ll take you right to the beach in a sea-breeze.
Mod, mod world
There was a lot of ‘60s-inspired monochrome on the runways of Marc Jacobs, Balmain and Dolce Gabbana, injected with technicolor hues from Moschino, Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors. There are plenty of elements that comprise the mod look: checks, heavy stripes and graphic prints. You’ll have a lot going on if you attempt to wear all of these together (but kudos to you if you pull it off!), so take it easy by trying on one element, then highlighting your ensemble with a primary color or two.
