Fashion Watch Report: Philip Rodriguez plays with pastels and flirty details

MANILA, Philippines - Cebu-based designer Philip Rodriguez’s collection centered on a palette of bright colors further accentuated by feminine touches on sheer fabrics and mixed materials. Eyelet tops combined with bright satin and, even for the men, earth toned suits showed hints of apple green and sky-blue shirts underneath. Prints were mostly floral with electric pleating on some floor-length dresses and a pantsuit. The collection was inspired by hydrangeas as piece after piece reflected the different shades of the blossom, with skirts opening up to resemble the petals that grow in greatest diversity in eastern Asia. The finale piece was a definite crowd pleaser, a gown in a rich dark plum with a sheer long-sleeved bodice covered in hand-sewn flowers and a full skirt with a train that was cinched at the waist. The overall collection was reminiscent of the life of a flower; from a seedling that slowly finds its true beauty at full bloom.
