Take a bow

MANILA, Philippines - The Vara buckle with grosgrain bow is one of the most iconic symbols of Salvatore Ferragamo.

The original Vara model dates back to 1978, when it was created by Fiamma, Salvatore and Wanda Ferragamo’s eldest daughter. “When it came out,” said Fiamma in an interview, “the boutique line didn’t have a model that was both sporty and elegant. The designers set out to work on a shape that had been tried and tested for some seasons and was well known to be comfortable, with a low heel and round toe.

Since then, production on the Vara has never stopped, and more than a million pairs have been sold, making it the most successful shoe in its category.

The Vara’s success lies in its elegantly minimalist design — a closed, round-toe shoe with a low heel, grosgrain bow, and gold plaque bearing the Ferragamo logo.

The most recent version, the Varina, puts a modern spin on this Ferragamo icon. Updating the Vara’s soft lines into a ballerina style, the Varina has kept the gold plaque and fabric bow, along with a grosgrain ribbon stitched along the trim. The iconic Vara pump takes on a new sensual look with a slender-heeled platform, creating a new classic.

In the Philippines, Salvatore Ferragamo is exclusively distributed by Stores Specialists, Inc. (SSI) and is located at Power Plant Mall, Greenbelt 4, Rustan’s Tower, Rustan’s Makati, Alabang Town Centre and Rustan’s Ayala Cebu.
