KUALA LUMPUR — Fifty years ago this month the birth control pill was born, sparking a revolution that was more than just about the freedom to have sex. Now that women could plan when they wanted to have children, they were able to seek higher education and build their careers. Women were empowered to live a life previously not possible.
Louis Vuitton’s prefall collection cheekily revives this revolutionary decade by creating an elegantly insouciant female persona whose wardrobe echoes the heady psychedelia in the form of trapezoidal cocktail coats, inside-out tweed suits and bandeau miniskirts with Vasarely-style positive-negative prints. The new bag to have is a pillow-like tote in steel lamé jacquard on wool with a fluorescent orange quilted interior reminiscent of bomber jackets. Designed by Marc Jacobs’ deputy Julie de Libran, who handles mid-season releases, this is a playful, youthful collection. But with fox fur leg muffs over bare legs and an oily leather neo trench coat in the mix, it’s still 100 percent luxe.
