Playing contrasts

Based on the number of women still shopping despite pundits’ warning of the global recession marching steadily towards Asia in the third quarter, the best way to quell worries of an impending financial crisis is to ward off the negative energy brought on by a dark wardrobe of basic black but to embrace effulgent colors.

Designer Joey Samson notes that one of the biggest spring-summer trends is the return of neon. Bold brights like orange and lime, along with day-glo hues, earn extra points for being peppy wardrobe fillers. YStyle recommends pairing these eye-popping hues with autumnal shades or khaki.

Nude or beige basics juxtaposed with one brightly-hued item is the perfect way to start the season. Not quite ready to invest in full-on tangerine? Lack the courage to don that neon green dress? Incorporate the trend by adding a necklace in your favorite incandescent tone to an otherwise staid ensemble. Or, instead of your everyday black bag, tote a purse with enough wattage to illuminate a room.

The best way to look past the gloom is to arm yourself with a bright attitude and equally bright clothing.
