Five types of online PDA

MANILA, Philippines - When it comes to publicly displaying affection, couples don’t need to go to the park just to kiss underneath the stars anymore. With just one click, photos of dinners, videos of engagement proposals and even screenshots of intimate conversations can be publicly shared online.

As someone living in the digital age, it’s almost impossible NOT to leave a trace online. Same goes for when you’re a couple. This means that the overly affectionate couples we’ve been trying to avoid IRL can still infiltrate our lives, even from the safety of our homes. But you know what? Not all online PDAs are necessarily cringeworthy. A few of the couples we root for and openly support occasionally surprise us with their endearing online posts. As long as you have a smartphone and an Internet connection, you’re bound to recognize the following on your social media feed.

That OTP couple on Twitter: “Sushi time with my gf after her midterms!”?

Ah, the couple you’ve secretly and patiently paired up. Obviously unassuming and oblivious to your manipulative ways, these nice friends of yours thought that that “hangout” was just a regular hangout and nothing more. From tagging them in one tweet to favoriting their exchange of tweets to each other, you’ve found ways for them to realize that they are actually meant to be together. Start clinking those emoji champagne glasses, you’re bound to have a big role in their wedding. *tweets randomly in their cute thread*

That dining couple on Facebook: “Celebrating 365 days with MY person.”?

As you scroll through your feed, you encounter a lopsided photo of a young couple having dinner at a fancy restaurant. It’s probably lopsided because it was taken by an overwhelmed waiter rushing to serve another table. As you spend three more seconds to look at what they’re eating, you realize that the couple is actually a pair of fresh graduates who have just received their first sweldo. Celebrating their first milestone together? *clicks like* That splurge is rightfully deserved.

That intimate couple on Snapchat: Now playing

Okay, we get it. You guys are together. No need for that full snap of you guys kissing, we already saw a still of that on Instagram. Jeez, moody lights and questionable sexy RnB music? How very extra of you to tell the world your plans. Y’all need to leave a space for Jesus. *skips the rest of the snap*

That traveling couple on Instagram: #couple takes on #jafun

Itinerary, check. Matchy outfits, check. Cheesy hashtag, check. Self-esteem... check? Don’t you just get confused when you see traveling couples on your feed? At first, they make you feel happy and motivated; the next second, you catch yourself brimming with jealousy and despair. Where do they get the money? How do they have the time?? How do they even ask permission?!? “Ma and pa, tawid lang kami sa Shibuya Crossing ha. Can’t wait to give your pasalubong. Mwa.” *clicks heart but also clicks bookmark button* Save that location pin, y’know, just in case there’s a seat sale.

That engaged couple on... all social media sites: “I can’t believe it!”?

She can’t believe it? We can’t believe it either! Congratulations! *likes, faves, hearts, attends wedding*
