When Heroes, 24, Gossip Girl, Entourage, How I Met Your Mother and Chuck ended last season I faced a long drought of television addiction. With all my favorites being over for a while I resorted back to DVD nights and movie marathons while I waited for my shows to begin once again. And I have to admit, sleepless nights and long rainy weekends almost made that wait unbearable!
But now I am finally happy once again! Some of my favorite shows (Entourage, Gossip Girl) are starting again with a couple of new addictions to throw into the mix and I am looking forward to getting hooked all over again!
The Boys Are Back!
Entourage actually began over the summer and was the first of my favorites to be back on the tube. So I happily began following the adventures of movie star Vincent Chase and his eclectic “entourage.” I was initially worried since I thought the last couple of seasons were beginning to get redundant with Vince continuously missing out on opportunities and seeming to get further and further away from his dreams of becoming a star again. I just thought it needed to “pick up” again the way it used to and I hoped this season would see more of that.
I have not been disappointed. I think this has been my favorite season of Entourage since the earlier ones. Everyone seems to be doing something with their lives and the characters are growing more as individuals, which is helping them grow as a group. Not to mention I love the fact that there is more screen time for Lloyd and Ari who I believe are the lifeblood of the show. Jeremy Piven, in particular, never fails to crack me up week after week with his crazy antics and hilarious one-liners.
So yes, the boys are definitely back and if you haven’t stopped in yet, then it’s definitely time to do so! Look for awesome cameos by the likes of Steve Nash and the gorgeous Zac Efron.
Welcome Back, Upper East Siders
Three words, eight letters, say it and I’m yours. Oh, the on-again, off-again relationship of Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass has had me since “Hell, no!” It seems like just yesterday they were finally telling one another “I love you” and now Gossip Girl is back for its new season. With a secret-filled (go figure!) season opener, you are left wanting more and wondering just what happened over the summer.
Jenny and Dan are settling into (and striving to get used to) life in the new penthouse on the upper East Side and Serena is back from a mysterious tour of Europe that saw her getting splashed on the pages of every tabloid from here to Timbuktu. Ironically, though, you already know there is something deeper than just making the headlines. Personally, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Chuck and Blair and hopefully we get to see what develops with Vanessa and her new friend.
Give Me Something To Sing About
While I am happy with the return of old favorites (Chuck has been renewed for another season, yay!) there is nothing quite like the excitement of finding a new addiction. This one hits very close to home since I love musical theater and anything about performing arts. Yes, I loved Footloose, Grease and practically every dancing and singing movie that came out (Centerstage, Save the Last Dance, etc.) which is why I immediately fell in love with Glee.
Glee is the musical “dramedy” about a small-town glee club trying to win the regional championship trophy. Headed by a former glee club champ and the Spanish teacher at the school the series showcases some amazing new talent and has great song numbers that have already made their way onto my iPod “Top 25 Played” list. I particularly like their version of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing from the pilot and female lead Lea Michele’s (who plays Rachel Berry and who I feel bears a striking resemblance to my favorite Broadway star Idina Menzel) version of Take a Bow.
I’ve only seen the first two episodes (the show started last Sept. 9) and I am already hooked!
So yes, while there was a long dry spell in between, my TV shows are back and better then ever and I am definitely staying tuned!
