MANILA, Philippines - Using a satirical play to educate the youth about responsible voting, De La Salle University’s resident theater organization, the Harlequin Theatre Guild presents Rizal is My President at the Yuchengco Auditorium of DLSU on Taft Avenue, Manila.
Based on the book, Rizal is My President: 40 Leadership Tips from Jose Rizal written by Napoleon Almonte, the satirical play poses a hypothetical situation wherein our national heroes rise from the grave to take on the challenge of the approaching national elections. They rally behind Jose Rizal and urge him to run as the next Philippine President. Disagreement among these national heroes soon ensues, pushing Rizal to ask the inevitable question: In whose hands does the fate of the country lie?
The play, written by Palanca award-winner Joshua So, a DLSU alumnus, with original songs by Noel Cabangon and directed by PETA’s Romualdo Tejada, is made possible with the cooperation of the Organizational Change Consultant Inc., a leading change consultancy specializing in paradigm shift interventions.
Gala night is on Aug. 31. Tickets for succeeding shows are at P250 and P500. For inquiries, call the Cultural Arts Office of DLSU at 524-4611 local 737 and 702, e-mail harlequintheatreguild@ gmail.com, or visit http://htgdlsu.multiply.com.
