Globe toasts Davao SMEs' success

It was a night like no other as Davao’s top small and medium enterprise players came out in full force to attend Globe Business Appreciation Night at the Marco Polo Hotel in Davao City last Oct. 29.

Guests consisting of Globe’s top SME clients were invited to a feast in honor of the Filipino business spirit. The whole affair was a tribute to the successes of Globe Business’ SME subscribers.

The event was highlighted by a special dinner that celebrated the rich and varied local flavor of Davao, prepared by Marco Polo sous chef Dionisio delos Reyes. The meal had a unique regional touch featuring a fusion of international cuisine mixed with Davao’s indigenous delicacies like pomelo and sea bass, among others.

The event was made even more memorable as keynote speaker, Edward Puyod, Davao’s own and vice president of Philippine Fresh Fruits Corporation, shared his success story.

According to Puyod, with a lot of hard work and having a true “masigasig” spirit, they have made the fruit business a very steady and lucrative trade. With the increase of their banana plantation from 150 to 400 hectares they were able to form Philippine Fresh Fruits Corporation, a quality producer and exporter of banana, pineapple and other fresh fruits. His message to his fellow entrepreneurs is “be ‘masigasig’ or walk that extra mile to be successful.”

”I believe that we are all ‘masigasig’ in our own ways. Just imagine the effect it can do to our companies, our communities, and our nation if we are able to inspire other people to be ‘masigasig.’ The success of our business is very vital to national progress,” Puyod added.

Puyod is also very thankful to Globe Business that continues to help in the growth of his business. “Globe has really revolutionized the way we manage our business,” Puyod admitted.

With a workforce of over 500 people, his task was made easier through Globe products like B-loop and Globe Visibility. B-loop allows businesses savings, with preferential rates when you enroll in a calling circle. Globe Visibility, on the other hand, is a mobile access to the Internet where one can browse, surf, and download through Globe’s wireless broadband. “I cannot imagine managing our business or living in this modern technological era without a Globe cellphone,” Puyod said.

But Puyod is just one of the many entrepreneurs that Globe Business has helped with his business needs. And that is why Globe held Globe Business’ Appreciation Night to honor and congratulate the many SMEs in Davao that have helped propel the country forward.

Globe Business head Gil Genio pointed out that the affair was a chance for Globe to recognize and value its loyal customers. It also served as a way to foster fellowship between Globe Business and its SME clients and other strategic partners.

“Globe Business wants to keep its customers its topmost priority. This appreciation night is a celebration of the hardworking entrepreneurs of the country…a chance to let them spend some quality time away from work,” Genio added.

It was also a night for testimonials. And of course, many glasses were raised to Globe Business for the help it has extended to entrepreneurs.

Thomas Gomez IV of GM Bank said: “Business Loop, one of the Globe Business solutions developed for the bank, allows me to communicate more frequently and closer with many of the people I deal with on a daily basis. This includes all our employees, our salespeople our account officers in the field, our suppliers and even our customers.

“The micro ‘asenso’ text facility essentially outsource some of our information and needs of our clients 24/7. This means that if a client needs information at any time of the day or night he is able to get that by just pushing a few buttons,” he said.

“The best thing about Globe Business is that we deal with a group of people who are focused on our needs. For an SME, we always need to come up with creative and imaginative ways to deal with the people we work with. Globe Business has provided ways to keep us in touch with all the people we have to stay in touch with and has also made it easier and cheaper to access their services.”

Ric Mactal of Heaven’s Cure said: “The visibility package of Globe allows me to stay connected to the Internet on a 24-hour basis. All I have to do is plug it into my laptop or computer and the connection is made. As long as I have visibility I am connected to the people I need to be connected with.”

“The magazine Masigasig of Globe Business features success stories of real people and entrepreneurs. The word ‘masigasig’ defines the typical Pinoy entrepreneur. For me, Globe Business equals solutions to all my connections needs.”

Ed and Tess Tian of Lot’s A Pizza Corporation: “We have been able to make good use of the inventory ordering system, which was developed by Globe Business. From here in the office, the officer in charge can send a text message of the order to the commissary. The commissary takes the order, confirms it, and the orders are directly placed on a server and encoded in our computer system.

“Globe is not just a business firm, they have the Masigasig Foundation, and it has been a big help to us SMEs.”

Rachy Cuna, Fiorgelato: “I have been with Globe for 15 years and our connections are always good.

“With the high technology of Globe Business, I am able to make decisions faster — and to convey these decisions more accurately.

“The Masigasig Foundation is an inspirational program of Globe, not only for us entrepreneurs, but also for upcoming businessmen. The new entrepreneurs feel that they have a guide for their business, which is always helpful for anyone who wants to start a business.

“I will continue using Globe facilities for as long as our business is around. We feel that their products are fitted for us entrepreneurs.”

The synergy that exists between Globe Business and its SME clients is admirable because of the openness that they share. After all, a solution to a problem can only work if the problem is well-addressed. And Globe Business has been able to do this for all its SME clients.

“This is our chance to meet with and talk to our customers. It also gives us an opportunity to inform them of our other products and services that they may also use in improving their business,” said Maridol Ylanan, Globe Business Corporate & Segments head. “We have a menu of solutions that you can savor and profit from. It is a range of products that we are proud to serve.”

The event was well-attended by the different sectors of the Davao business industry like fruits and agriculture (Asian Fruits and Soriano Fruits Corp); construction and wood furniture (New Masters Home Interiors, Logwood Lumbers); and hotel and restaurant (Roadway Inn, Sychar Hotel, and Claude’s French Restaurant). The event was supported by partners from different sectors like the government, education, and environmental institutions like Philippine Women’s College Davao, Samson Technical Institute, Philippine Chamber of Commerce, International Committee of the Red Cross and Philippine Eagle Conservation.
