The little black dress is enjoying yet another resurrection this season with a new structured shape and minimalist design, albeit with a rather arresting theme: goth. But before you get carried away with visions of Morticia Addams in her full regalia, the modern gothic goddess is more about romance and alluring details. Alexander McQueen’s tutu-like skirts were a perfect foil for his body-skimming modern tops. John Galliano used feathers on skirts and headpieces to create a whimsical appeal. And perhaps the fairest of them all, the Rodarte sisters created web-like dresses and tights in the softest knits that gently cling around the body. Completing the look are lady-like accessories of precious chains and floral brooches. Goes to show that dark doesn’t always equal macabre.
