After high school, i-school

At some point in our bubblegum pop lives, we may feel like Holden Caulfield of The Catcher in the Rye or Claire Danes from My So-Called Life. Being a teenager has never been easy, as teens constantly have do deal with boys and girls, friends and foes, and a string of different emotions. Well, college is the next chapter to look forward to. And in this competitive world, one needs to be empowered to shine.

A new school in Quezon City will surely draw a clear path in the world of technology. Cosmopoint Internatioal Institute of Technology (CIIT) has more to offer than reading rooms and formal education. Expect a paper-free environment with new computers, a WIFI zone, laptop plans for students, and globally competitive education.

As part of the Cosmopoint Education Group in Malaysia, CIIT focuses on Information Technology with fields like multimedia and design. Plus, the cool thing is that it offers a much sought-after range of skill-based certificates and career-oriented diplomas that are recognized and accepted by leading organizations and universities globally.

“Since the IT industry is fast changing, Cosmopoint aims to provide quality education and produce dynamic Filipino professionals,” says CIIT CFO Darwin O. “With a two-year diploma course issued by Malaysia, specialist courses for further education and corporate training, there will be a higher employability rate for our students.”

So, here is a brief description about the trimester courses offered at CIIT. In just two and a half years, expect a diploma from Malaysia — enough reason to get you excited about going to school and achieving your life long dreams.

Digital Design

If you’ve always been artsy and want to put your imagination to good use, Computer Graphic Design is perfect. Students will learn the traditional elements of design like sketching, illustration and storyboarding. The cool programs include Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, Lightwave and Web tools.

Career-wise, the list is endless. As a future graphic designer, animator, web designer, art director or trainer, graduates can work in advertising agencies, graphic design studios, magazines, newspapers, book publishers, printing companies, sales promotion firms, in-house design departments or corporations and banking and financial institutions. Who knows? You might create award-winning ad campaigns.

In Multimedia Application, students will learn interactive multimedia programming, video production and editing, digital photo manipulation, electronic publishing, digital audio and video and even entrepreneurship.

Then, graduates can find a job in in-house media production, advertising firms, training presentation, audio and video production houses, e-learning development, web design development, animation, etc. Graduates would be able to work as multimedia developers, animators, Web developers, trainers and video specialists, just like in Dreamworks.

Information Technology

The diploma course in IT for Software Engineering prepares students to be an application developer/programmer in today’s Web-based environment. Expect to learn the fundamentals of problem solving and analytical skills to a range of latest software development languages such as the Java and Internet platforms. If Bill Gates or Steve Jobs is your idol, you might follow their path of being a programmer, web developer, database administrator and even IT Executive.

Perhaps a more challenging diploma course is Computer Support and Network Technician. Students are equipped with the skills and knowledge an individual will need to be competent in the management and maintenance of computer systems, both the hardware and software.

Since IT is definitely the wave of the future, students will be exposed to the fundamentals of IT concepts, maintaining and troubleshooting of hardware and network systems, and hands-on skills to various popular operating systems in order for them to work as computer technicians, call center executives, network system technicians, support centre executives and computer trainees.

E-Business

Other courses include E-Business and E-Secretary. E-Business is where students can get to learn ICT applications within the business environment including Web-based tools, presentation packages, computerized accounting application and multimedia. On the other hand, E-Secretary will help those prepare for the modern office environment by combining traditional secretarial subjects with the latest modern office information communication technologies such as e-mail, word processing, Web design and presentation package.

“The thing that distinguishes CIIT from other IT schools is that we want to upgrade the quality of education of students to compete globally,” says CIIT COO Nerian Guyang. “We have high-tech facilities for students with one computer for a class of 30. Our up-to-date curriculums from Malaysia are industry based. For the students’ OJT, we will help them find a company that suits them.”

This summer, CIIT will give free workshops on basic animation, basic Internet and basic graphic design from April 24 to 26. Another session of summer courses on basic Internet, basic office and basic flash animation will start on May 8 to 10. CIIT is already accepting enrollees for the school year on June. Classes start either from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. or from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

So, if you don’t want to be out of sync in the ever-changing world of technology, choose the enlightened path.
