Although it may seem reminiscent of Falling Leaves, this semi-autobiographical novel is nowhere near it. First of all, it deals with physical relationships, and what I mean by physical is sex. Second, there are no victims here.
The protagonist, Coco, is young, hip and involved with Tian-Tian, an impotent drug addict, and Mark, a married German. Conservative and uptight it will never be.
As Coco goes about life, finding out who she really is, she is accompanied by a few erotic escapades here and there with guys, and even girls! Shanghai Beauty is fun, fast-paced, and definitely sexy!
