CD review

12-0-1
ALPHA RECORDS

Borrowing numbers for a band name (e.g. 2B3, Boys 2 Men) for added hip factor, 12-0-1 is clearly suffering from the "Juday" virus which is understandably more life-threatening than Anthrax—read: "Hit Me Baby One More Time" masochism meets Anna Luna brand martyrdom.

In fairness, amidst the killer Pinoy underdog lover, lyricism is squeaky clean interpreted by a choirboy quality voice reminiscent of the now defunct (or hibernating?) boy band, Jeremiah. Their English cuts "I Wonder Why," "Heaven’s On Our Side," and "If You Only Knew" are almost forgivable, if only they didn’t sound like Westlife.

Just when you are about to quit on this CD—surprise!—the last track becomes a semi-danceable melodramatic cut which bars you from pushing the stop button (but you do it anyway).

If I were to rate this album from 0-20 (20 being the highest), I’ll give them 12 for voice quality, 0 for cheesy, predictable lyrics, and 1 for originality. But as long as we pledge allegiance to our flag, it is our duty to support the OPM industry. So don’t forget, buy Filipino.
