BAGUIO CITY - Summer is almost at hand and tourists will soon seek vacation spots to get a respite from the warmer and humid days. And while some would flock to the country's famous beaches, others will still prefer the chilly weather of the City of Pines.
But in a far yet highly-urbanized area up in the mountains such as Baguio, where could one stay for a peaceful summer escapade? Luckily, a lesser known, underrated hotel hidden from the noises of the city promises to offer you a home that can give the experience of a natural high.

Located at the corner of Amistad Street, Camp 7 and the historic Kennon Road, the High Point Boutique Inn and Restaurant is definitely not among those nearest to the heart of Baguio. However, it still offers easy access to tourist attractions as it takes about a 20-minute drive from the city proper. And if you're looking for a quiet area and if you like driving around the picturesque sceneries of the country's summer capital, then this is surely your place to be.
Amid the pine trees and a beautifully landscaped garden, this modern Filipino architectural design provides the homey ambiance for all vacationers who would like to escape the busy scene of the now densely populated Baguio City.
Both in the inside and outside, High Point does not really flaunt the grand or extraordinary look of the usual first class hotels in the metro. However, the inn's simplistic physical style and design still remain attractive as it combines the traditional and modern Baguio. The cozy vibe of the place is perfect for the vacationers longing for a cool, quiet rest after a long day of activities.
Spacious rooms
High Point offers a total of 24 rooms that are of various types: Standard, Deluxe Twin, Deluxe Triple and Suite. The rates may appear pricey to some, but they surely give back high value for your money since the rooms have the right blend of luxury and feel of relaxation.
The rooms are very spacious: the Standard type that has a single queen-sized bed suited for two people is so big that it could actually host one or two more extra single beds (with extra charge, of course).
Each room comes with air-condition, a free and reliable wi-fi connection, an LCD flat panel cable television, a comfortable stuffed arm chair and a small wooden bench. The rooms are a bit poorly lit, however, and the blankets are not thick enough to protect you from Baguio's cold. The bathrooms are clean though they have unstable water heaters.
Facilities
The hotel has its own restaurant at the ground floor that promises fine dining experience with a variety of cuisines to choose from. A cafeteria, which is open from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight, also serves breakfast, pasta, dessert, rice meals, hot and cold beverages.
However, the food served once for breakfast was just above average and not superb.
For big events, High Point has its glass-walled Green House Function Hall. Perfect for wedding receptions, debuts, seminars, birthdays and other special occasions, this facility can accommodate 300 to 400 people.
High Point has also a gazebo and open lounging areas that remind you of the fresh, breezy mountain atmosphere of Baguio.
With these facilities, well-maintained and comfortable rooms supported by the friendly and reliable staff, High Point delivers to its promise of being your contemporary home up in the mountains.
