Best of the week: Vicki Belo's lonely Valentine's and Adele's Whitney connection

Racist of the week: floyd mayweather

MANILA, Philippines - Earlier this week, Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather revealed his ugly racist side when he tweeted, ”Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he’s Asian.” Not cool. The first Asian-American in the NBA, Lin isn’t the only Asian athlete to be the target of Mayweather’s insults. Pound-for-pound champ Manny Pacquiao has been called a “midget,” among other things, by Mayweather, but like Lin, Pacquiao kept his head down and ignored the comments. On a related note, Pacquiao announced that he may be retiring from boxing next year after accepting the CBCP’s offer to make him a Bible ambassador, a move that aims to increase readership in the holy book. If he pushes through with quitting, the anticipated fight with Mayweather may never happen.

Breakup of the week: hayden kho and vicki belo

Hayden and Vicki’s relationship was as tumultuous as it could get when the two initially broke up in 2010 when videos of Hayden having sex with several women went viral. Before we all knew it, they were back together, Hayden proposed, and now this. Before canceling her Twitter account, Dr. Vicki Belo started a tsismis wildfire when she posted “nancycastilogne you can now openly date @haydenjr. You have my blessings. Hope you’ll both be happy” two days before Valentine’s. Hayden and Nancy Castilogne have denied the affair, so it must have been Vicki’s intuition and let’s be honest, Hayden’s track record. Vicki called it quits before heading off to LA. last Thursday to “learn how to love” herself. Yowza. If you thought your Valentine’s was bad, feel better.

Awards ceremony of the week: the 2012 grammys

Adele was the hands-down winner at this year’s Grammy Awards where she won Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Short Form Music Video, Best Pop Solo Performance, and the holy trinity: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. However, the Grammy’s was a sad event when news broke out that Whitney Houston passed away the day before the Grammys due to taking a combination of Xanax and alcohol. Whitney’s career is legendary, winning 415 awards from eight prestigious award-giving bodies and having all of her seven albums have diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold certifications. Incidentally, Adele matched Houston’s 20-week no. 1 feat with The Bodyguard OST on the Billboard Hot 200 with her sophomore release, 21. Houston’s 2000 “Greatest Hits” re-entered the top 10 at the no. 6 spot. — Koji Arsua

Erratum:

We apologize to the owners of the Elorde Boxing Gym in Katipunan for a story that ran last Feb. 11 in our Best of the Week section. In it, we commented on rumors circulating on various social media platforms about a camera installed in the women’s bathroom of the gym. Elorde has responded, stating: “The said hole in the female shower area is quite small for one to be able see a cellphone camera recording through. Moreso, there is only one hole in the female shower area and not “holes” as claimed by certain tweets. What we also can’t seem to process in this accusation is how someone can record a video through a cellphone camera from the ceiling, given the angle available from where the specific hole is positioned. The hole is quite close to the wall so if there should be any recording, it would be difficult to capture the person taking a shower.”
