We’re both single and we’re both hot, so what’s wrong with that?” says Raymond Gutierrez, without batting an eyelash. Mond has been in the headlines recently because of kissing—and a lot of people telling.
“It must be a slow news week for me to be part of the headlines the past three days,” said Mond with a chuckle. It’s been on top of the TV Patrol showbiz news, where even mom Annabelle and sis Ruffa were made to comment. ”At least she’s from a good family at marunong mag-English!” defended Mommy Annabelle.
“We were just enjoying ourselves in Cam Sur and Carla is really close to me. She is a sweet girl, and we arrived there together. We were just having fun. There should be no malice in that.” So there you go, straight from the uh, horse’s mouth — that should put matters to rest.
Where was the scene of this crime of passion? At Cam Sur’s Watersports Complex (CWC), where stars fall on their rumps — after trying their luck on the wakeboarding ramps. Nope, Raymond didn’t wakeboard but he was up all day cheering for the competing teams at the newly launched Lago Del Rey, an inflatable paradise of fun in the sun for the whole family. The night before, he was just chilling out with friends, as others downed shots of Jaegermeister like there was no tomorrow.
The days were filled with water sports, the nights were rife with water spurts. I was there, and we all got wet and wild — in a wholesome sense, believe me. At the team sports event, I had a great time being submissive, playing an obedient team player to team leaders Marc Nelson and Dyan Castillejo of Team White. We hurdled giant inflatables like we were on the set of Takeshi’s Castle — running, jumping, slipping and swimming our way to the finish line. There was beach volleyball, paddleboarding, kayaking and a relay race — just to make sure the endorphines keep on coming. That, our team had a lot of. And so proudly, we finished third!
At the end of the day, I even got to try wakeboarding under the tutelage of Gov. LRay Villafuerte himself! I was a bit jittery, but with the kind and reassuring words of my Aussie wake mate Reuben, I was able to stand and deliver — on the third try! I watched with awe as the others showed off their skills — Julio Villafuerte, the main man behind Republic, delivered the oohs and aahs as he flipped and flew right before our very eyes. Others chose to go cable skiing, kneeboarding, waterskiing and wakeskating — because yes, in the heat of this summer, everyone just wants to get soaked.
“With the addition of this new facility, families or individuals who are not into wakeboarding can still enjoy other fun activities within a facility that boasts truly world-class amenities,” said Gov. LRay Villafuerte as he shook the hand of Department of Tourism USec. Cynthia Carreon. So happy was Gov Villafuerte that he promised to make this event an annual one.
And just like Mond, fun can be had with whatever floats your boat.
