In these desperate times.

Desperate times call for svelte measures, that’s considering the delicious weight — that’s power and pouting to you out there.

With the delectable dish of having a quadruple queendom reigning upon our screens this season of kings, expect hot flashes and cold diva stares — and that is what makes it quadruply enticing. For our Supremity Fair cover taken by Supreme hotshot Mark Nicdao, the likes of ravishing queens of the screens get together for this one seductive treat— Desperadas 2.

I witnessed Ruffa Gutierrez’s winning moment during this season’s Star Awards for Television, where she bagged the Best Showbiz Oriented Show host award for her “Ruffa style” of hosting. Will she be doubly lucky and take home another award — for acting this time — at the Metro Manila Film Festival Awards? We’ll see.

Rufa Mae Quinto is the new queen of sexy comedy, a court jester with a heaving chest and a smile to beguile. Iza Calzado we have run out of superlatives to describe a woman who puts the artist in artista — and a masterful one at that. Anything she does reeks of class — for anything she does, she’s in a class of her own. Hands down, Marian Rivera is the queen of soap, with a lather so soft, so rich you’ll want to rinse and repeat. Now rinse your dirty thoughts away because this is the season not to be naughty (who am I kidding?) but to be really nice. Because if you’re really nice, you’ll get blessings beyond belief.

Speaking of beyond belief, Ogie Alcasid, who has made us LOL-ing all the way from his Bubble Gang joints, turns upside down and inside out, showing us a side “every woman” wants.

Here at Supreme, there are a lot of things that are keeping us warm and merry before time runs out on 2008. It is officially 12 days to go before Pinoy Filmfest day, and while we’re at it, why not pop into the theaters for a rowdy dowdy time? My favorite pastime is watching Filipino movies and they are great sources of entertainment, kumpletos recados all the time. Yes, a lot of the films are far from perfect, and decades down the line, we still have yet to solidify the “Filipino” in the Filipino film, but all this idealism will not go anywhere if we do not watch and give our feedback on what we like and what we do not like.

Producers this side of town have this uncanny ability to sniff out what sells —and if it’s good taste that sells, then by all means it’s good taste they will serve. So, this season, indulge in this buffet of treats. You’ve worked hard all year, and we all know that this year has been tricky, let’s all get on with the new year and move it. It’s about time. Tick, tock. Tick, tock.

In these desperate times, we should be more desperate to seek out fun, to see the beauty in life, to appreciate and be ready for the new. Because in the end, we are all somehow desperate, too.
