We may be in different venues all at once, but we are still gathered here today, in one virtual room, made possible by the power of the internet,” began Alfredo Panlilio, PLDT president and chief executive officer, at a Zoom meeting recently.
As I listened to Panlilio, I could not help but be awed by how much technology and the speed of virtual connections in these pandemic years have changed our lives.
I know that as we go back to face-to-face meetings that we have so missed over the past two years, as the threat of COVID-19 seems to be on the wane, there is one thing that I dare predict will become an integral part of the “new normal”: the speed of internet connection.
At the Zoom gathering last Friday, Panlilio added, “Just a few years ago, an event like this would not have been possible. With the different technical and logistical restrictions of the past, participating in a virtual launch was just science fiction. But now, at present, it’s part of our reality, and will continue to be even after the pandemic. We have been moving towards this future and it was only fast-tracked, brought about by the pandemic.”
Panlilio announced that PLDT Home is launching the first-ever 10,000 Mbps fiber-optic service in the Philippines, in a history-making move towards the future of home connectivity. The new service now puts the country next to first-world nations such as South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA in terms of having access to ultra-fast home internet speed.
No missed message
Imagine, with a speed of up to 10,000 Mbps, there will be flawless communication in meetings and no more “garbled” messages. Wouldn’t it be such a joy to listen to our bosses, teachers and loved ones and hear with true clarity all that they have to say — without missing a beat? A speed of 10,000 Mbps can do that for us — PLDT Home, with its fiber connections, promises just that for its customers.
“We at PLDT continue to play an active role in shaping the future of our country and leading the way towards a connected nation,” Panlilio said. “We are doing all these for our North Star, our customers: business owners, professionals, tech mavericks with very large homes, multiple high-bandwidth users with multiple screens. And with all that life requires of them, they need the fastest home broadband powered by the fastest network. And we are more than ready to give them what they need — all 10,000 of it.”
The future is here as PLDT Home will roll out its 10,000 Mbps service in Metro Manila this December and will then implement further expansions in other key cities outside Metro Manila, particularly Cebu and Davao in 2022.
Smart homes are here
The planned rollout is the culmination of PLDT Home’s yearlong network expansion program in 2021, in a deliberate move to provide Filipino homes with only the strongest internet connections.
“Consistent with our commitment to provide superior technology to address the Filipinos’ growing digital connectivity needs, PLDT Home continues to innovate and make a difference in the lives of our customers,” said Butch G. Jimenez, senior vice president and head of PLDT Home Business. “With our all-new, upgraded, and fastest internet speed, Filipino homes will now be able to experience and enjoy the future — that is the smart home.”
Leading market and consumer data provider Statista.com defines “smart home” as a private household controlled, monitored, and regulated through networked devices. Statista predicted a household penetration rate in the Philippines of 7.5 percent for 2021 and 14.2 percent (or 3.4 million active smart homes) by 2025.
A 10,000 Mbps connection thus makes the perfect partner for the bandwidth-hungry smart home. To cater to the growing number of smart homes in the Philippines, PLDT Home’s new Fiber Plan comes with a WiFi 6 Mesh System that will guarantee ultra-fast WiFi speeds covering an area of over 550 square meters.
“Launching 10,000 Mbps shows our commitment to bring the country’s digital infrastructure to the future. PLDT Home’s fiber will not just power smart homes, but also new metaverse applications that are currently in development around the globe,” said PLDT senior advisor for Home Business Jeremiah De La Cruz.
The most powerful Fiber internet in Philippines
PLDT Home has also launched the most powerful Fiber plans this November. As a treat for consumers this holiday season, these new plans automatically give PLDT Home Fiber subscribers free upgrades of as much as three times their subscribed internet speeds.
All PLDT Home subscribers can now enjoy the fastest and most superior internet speeds to power their smart home devices and cover their homes with seamless, whole-home Wi-Fi connectivity.
PLDT Home delivers the most powerful broadband services for Filipinos. As of September 2021, PLDT has added 324,000 new fiber subscribers, wrapping up the third quarter with a market-leading count of 2.77 million fixed broadband customers.
The telco continues to set the standard for broadband service in the country with its four-peat record at the prestigious Ookla Speedtest Awards for Q1-Q2 2021, recording an overall speed score of 46.25 Mbps. With its recent feat, PLDT remains and will remain at the top of its game.
PLDT Home and 10,000 Mbps — the future of the internet has arrived and it is brought to us by the telco that was there when all virtual communications began.
For now, that seems faster than a “speeding bullet,” right?
