Staying true to their reputation as one of Cebu’s popular restaurants and home to our favorite Filipino dishes, the Laguna Group which operates Laguna Garden Café, Café Laguna, Lemon Grass and Ulli’s Street of Asia — all located in Ayala Center — recently opened yet another dining place, this time at South Road Properties.
Parilya is the landmark of al fresco seaside dining in Cebu showcasing classics such as boneless lechon, steamed seafood and chicken inasal. Added to these are distinctive dishes that include chorizo gourmet burger, lechon sandwich and pastry otap with ice cream.
As if all that is not enough to make Parilya stand out, a number of Filipino favorites are added to the menu from friends who graciously shared their recipes, giving a new and fresh interpretation of traditional Filipino dishes.
Welcoming patrons at the grand opening was Laguna Group’s much-loved matriarch Lita Urbina, accompanied by daughters Jill Viado and Grace Absin and son, chef Raki Urbina.
The white and turquoise hues of the cozy interiors and the cool sea breeze is a veritable melting pot as urban professionals and coffee aficionados all meld together in pursuit of good food and great times.
Along with the proven quality of food and service that the Laguna Group is known for, it is the marriage of the orthodox and the unique that truly sets Parilya apart.
Among the invitees who enjoyed familiar flavors in very pleasing surroundings included realtor Annie Aboitiz, art enthusiast Elvira Luym, sought-after architect Albert Garbanzos, food critic Aissa de la Cruz, Honorary Consul of Sweden Cheling Sala and his wife Susan, gracious lady Irma Atillo, style icon Rosebud Sala and restaurateur Nonie Uy.
Whether you’re a visitor eager to be immersed in the Filipino-Cebuano cuisine or a local who craves to rediscover Cebu for some new dining experience, Parilya is definitely an exciting destination to put on your list.

The Creative Cuisine Gourmet Group, operator of well-received ventures such as Chika-an sa Cebu, Big Mao, Kaffee Alde, the Big Daddy Food Truck and catering services Creative Cuisine, added a new dining experience with the opening of Brique Modern Kitchen.
Brique offers unique preparations of pastas, finely crafted salads and upscale sandwiches, which are inspired by a set of cultural influences. Despite the bustle, the wait staff does not miss a beat, effortlessly delivering executive chef Derek Dy Tian’s oversized portions to the diners. An older crowd hits this space early on, while the hip young strut in as the night progresses. The chic restaurant located at Salinas Drive, Lahug, also offers a vast selection of wines and beverages.
Parilya and Brique Modern Kitchen are worthy of the attention of locals and visitors alike. Best of all, service is fast and efficient and the pricing is within reasonable means for lunch and dinner.
