Since its establishment in 2008, Gear and Glam, a vintage car show and fashion show, has been one of the most anticipated event at the Northwing of SM City Cebu.
The annual affair brings together the creations of the Fashion Council of Cebu (FCC) side-by-side with the vintage car collection of the Performance and Classics Enthusiasts (PACE). This year’s show paid tribute to the British film series of spy-based on the fictional character of M16 agent James Bond OO7.
Directed by Cebu director Junjet Primor, Gear and Glam whose theme “For your Eyes Only” was a true spectacle complete with fight scenes and explosions in true James Bond style. The entire performance was a feast for the senses with the 32-piece SM Cebu Orchestra providing the live soundtrack. Other performers included the University of Cebu Dance Company, Disco Jammers, Knapsack Dancers, Dance Sports Anselo and Desiree and the Cebu Gymnastics injecting energy into the standing-room-only fabulous show.
The curtains rose with designer Albert Arriba’s collection inspired by the movie View to Kill paired with the Lotus Elis driven by model Harold Dee who portrayed James Bond. Also featured were the Land Rover Defender 110 and Mercedes Benz G36 driven by PACE members Harley Yunam and Peter Mancao.
Then came Jun Escario’s modern interpretation of Diamonds are Forever with the Ferrari Dino 246 GTS driven by multi-awarded industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue. Highly respected fashion designer Oj Hofer’s tailored pieces inspired by the movie Casino Royale complemented the Lincoln Continental Bill Blass Edition driven by Tony Lozada. The youngest member of FCC Mia Arcenas presented a collection inspired by the movie Die Another Day together with the BMW Z8 driven by Mike Jo.
The Rolls Royce Silver Seraph of Paolo Rodriguez served as a stunning backdrop for the creations of Cary Santiago, Yvonne Quisumbing and Arcy Gayatin whose pieces were respectively inspired by the movies From Russia with Love, The World is Not Enough and Skyfall.
Designer Edwin Ao’s adaptation of Golden Eye came with even more style paired with a red Alfa Romeo driven by entrepreneur Glenn Soco, a red MGA by Junjun So and a red Corvette C1 by Darren Deen. Next came Philipp Tampus’ version of Moonraker and Tomorrow Never Dies by Ditas Rodriguez with the Porsche 550 Spider driven by Chris Aldeguer. Capping off the show were the Lamborghini Diablo driven by Vice Mayor Red Durano and the Mercedes SLS driven by Harold Ong Badilles shown alongside the collection of Philip Rodriguez who took inspiration from the movie Goldfinger one of the most iconic James Bond films of all time.
