A toast to the masters

The masters of Philippine art were fêted by Edsa Shangri-La, Manila in its recent “Art of Wine” soiree, a monthly affair that celebrates Filipino artistry and the art of fine wine. The very dedicated Edsa Shangri-La, Manila general manager Patrick Schaub welcomed the guests of honor, National Artist awardee for Visual Arts Arturo Luz and glass sculptor Ramon Orlina, who showcased their prized work alongside sculptures by fellow virtuosos, namely, National Artist BenCab, Lor Calma, Jose Mendoza, and Eduardo Castrillo. A live jazz trio kept the mood light and fun, while Philippine Wine Merchants’ Raymond Joseph filled many a guest’s cup with the legendary Montes Alpha wines, Chile’s first and number one premium wine. Edsa Shangri-La executive chef Warren Brown served deliciously inventive hors d’oeuvres such as miso glazed scallop with black sesame, beef rendang cilantro on fried pao and mini salmon balls with lemon dill aioli.  Guests of note included acclaimed artists Betsy Westendorp and Dr. William Chua, and Sari Ortiga of The Crucible Gallery. Indeed, as Pablo Picasso, once said, “Sculpture is the art of the intelligence.”  Edsa Shangri-La has done it again with a very diligent and hard-working group of individuals. Congratulations Patrick and to Edsa Shangri-La Manila director of communications Cristina del Carmen, communications manager Angel Velasco and the rest of your outstanding team.
