‘Belenismo’ in Tarlac
No less than Tarlac’s favorite son, President Benigno “Noynoy†Aquino III, was the guest of honor at the “Belenismo sa Tarlac†festival. The annual competition for the best nativity-scene representation or belen in Tarlac was spearheaded by Tarlac Heritage Foundation’s mother-and-daughter team of Isabel and Dr. Isa Cojuangco-Suntay in cooperation with San Miguel Corporation. The President personally handed the awards to the first-place winners in the six categories — Personal, High School, Monumental, Church, Grand Municipal, and Grand Non-Municipal — during the awards night held in Camiling, Tarlac. Since its founding in 2007, the “Belenismo sa Tarlac†is included in the calendar of events of the Department of Tourism. A special program of native songs and dances including a sumptuous dinner featuring the delicacies and specialties of Tarlaqueños—was especially created for the members of the Diplomatic Corps that trooped to Tarlac.
