MANILA, Philippines - Mallers of SM City Cebu had the rare opportunity to be part of history and relive the spirit of the EDSA Revolution when
The Inaugural
exhibit made a stop at the Queen City of the South.
The exhibit, which is based on the book published by President Benigno Aquino III’s campaign bureau head Maria V. Montelibano, was launched on Feb. 17 at The Block in SM City North EDSA. The Inaugural chronicles the campaign of P-noy, son of President Corazon C. Aquino and assassinated political leader Benigno Aquino Jr., through images by senior photojournalists and accounts written by participants of the unusual volunteer-powered campaign that brought him to the presidency.
Presidential sister Ballsy Aquino-Cruz graced the exhibit and book launch at the Rotunda Area of SM City Cebu. Cruz thanked the Cebuanos for giving her brother a huge margin of votes during the May elections. Atty. Democrito Barcenas, spoke on behalf of the Aquino volunteers and thanked the presidential sister for taking time out to meet P-noy’s supporters in Cebu. The book’s co-publisher, Joey Avellana, also gave a short speech on behalf of Montelibano.
Prominent Cebuano officials led by Rep. Tommy Osmeña and wife Councilor Margot Osmena, Mayor Michael Rama, Bogo City Mayor Tining Martinez, City Councilors Jun Pe and Alvin Dizon; Eloisa Fernan, Elvira Luym, and Teresin Mendezona attended the event.
The launch was also a grand reunion of Aquino supporters led by Cebu P-noy Volunteers chairman emeritus Atty. Agusto Go and Nonie Uy. SM officials led by SM Prime Holdings vice president Marissa Fernan and vice president for marketing Millie Dizon welcomed them.
Highlights of the event included a shower of yellow confetti and book signing by Ballsy Aquino-Cruz. After the Cebu run, The Inaugural exhibit roadshow will go to SM City Bacolod from April 14 to 20, SM City Cagayan de Oro from April 29 to May 8, and SM City Davao from May 13 to 22. It will go back to Luzon on May 30 to June 5 when it makes a stop at SM City Naga, and will proceed to SM City Batangas on June 9 to 15, SM City Tarlac from June 20 to 27, SM City Baguio from July 5 to 16 before its Grand Finale at the SM Mall of Asia during the last week of August.
