MANILA, Philippines - Salcedo Auctions opens the 2011 auction season with a sale featuring vintage and modern art and furniture pieces from the early 20th century to the present.
The auction is today, March 5, at the Nash Room of Mandarin Oriental, Manila at 2p.m. The auction house is committed to highlight the country’s rich cultural heritage. Highlights of the sale include a spectacular 1971 pen-and-ink by National Artist Vicente Manasala, executed in the same masterful cross-hatch technique as the world-record setting “Pila sa Bigas” sold at Salcedo Auctions’ The Ilustrado Home + The Modern Decorator sale held in September 2010; a brilliant 1971 oil on canvas, and a rare 1952 oil on paper both by National Artist Hernando R. Ocampo; a covetable pen-and-ink from Lee Aguinaldo’s Rembrandt’ series; a self-portrait by the expatriate modernist Romeo Tabuena, and two important works by the London-based art dynamo David Medalla.
Furniture includes hard to find designer pieces ranging from mid-century Czechoslavakian pieces to works by modern masters such as Philippe Starck. A rare, limited-edition Daum sculpture joins classics by Piero Fornasetti among other collectibles.
