Yummy baon, breakfast ideas for kids

Serve the kids something healthy for breakfast as they go back to school this June.

MANILA, Philippines – Kids will be back to school in a few days, and it may be a struggle to wake them up and get them ready for school early in the morning.

Aside from buying new school supplies to get them excited for school, why not serve them breakfast and school snacks to look forward to every morning?

So to give mommies new breakfast and baon ideas this back to school month, food magazine Yummy! held the “Baon Blowout” event on Saturday at the Glorietta Activity Center.

They invited different food sellers to feature their products that they recommend for kids.

For starters, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Yet mommies are always on the rush to prepare them every morning which makes them turn to processed food.

Good thing, instant and organic-made champorado is now available, which you can cook up in less than 30 minutes.

This champorado has black, white and red rice with pure tablea. All you need to do is soak the rice for fifteen minutes, then pour it in a pan and add 13 to 15 cups of water plus the tablea. Stir it until the rice grains softens. Once cooked add milk or honey, and it makes eight servings.

Another option is serving them a healthy drink like almond milk. This is made of almond nuts, which is filled with nutrients, combined with milk and coconut sugar which is the healthier kind of sugar that your kids would love.

If you want to give them more Vitamin C but they’re not a big fan of citrus drinks, try this iced tea which is made of raw cacao, calamansi and honey. The honey and cacao lessen the citrus taste which the kids will love.

For their snack in school, it’s no secret that kids love chocolate. Yet many think this is not a healthy snack for them in school.

Worry not because chocolate spreads with a healthier twist is now available.

One is this chocolate spread that you can match against Nutella, which is way healthier because it uses raw cacao bits, brown sugar and coconut sugar.

On the other hand, if your kids love peanut butter, maybe they’ll also like these spreads made of almond and cashew nuts. Aside from having more nutrients than peanuts, they’re tastier which is why they’re combined with chocolate bars most of the time.

These goodies come in two flavors each: the almond butter has the extra dark cacao and cinnamon vanilla, while the cashew butter come in vanilla chai and crunchy cacao flavors.

No matter what you choose, what’s important is to fill their tummies with healthy foods which will provide them energy for the whole day in school.
