MANILA, Philippines - “Angels†will walk around the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) complex on January 20 during an activity dubbed Angels Walk for Autism, in celebration of the 17th Autism Consciousness Week.
The activity seeks to help spread awareness for autism among Filipinos through the participation of individuals, government agencies, schools, civic organizations and private institutions like SM Supermalls.
The Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP) has been conducting Angels Walk in different venues since it started in 2007. Its partnership with SM began during its 4th annual celebration, and has continued to be held in SM MOA complex until today.
ASP is a 23-year old non-profit organization and the only one dedicated to persons with autism and their families, with more than 8,000 members and 62 chapters nationwide. Last year, the event gathered around 5,000 participants from various supporting groups and individuals. This year, ASP expects at least the same number of supporters.
SM is a member of ASP’s National Working Committee through its SM Cares program on Disability Affairs headed by Engr. Bien Mateo.
“By supporting activities like these, we are able to provide our customers and our partners with the opportunity to better understand members of our society who have special needs. On a daily basis, SM ensures that each of its mall has sufficient accessibility for PWDs and their families,†says Mateo. SM Cares is a CSR component of SM Supermalls across the country.
Those who wish to take part in this worthwhile event may visit SM Cares Facebook page for more information, or call ASP at 9298446.
