MANILA, Philippines - To mark its 25th anniversary, MEDICard celebrates good health and the benefits of running as it stages its first ever MEDIRun. The one-day event will showcase challenging races, as well as free or discounted medical services to benefit not only running enthusiasts but families as well.
“The health benefits of running cannot be emphasized enough. Aside from benefiting the cardiovascular system, running also offers a great and healthy alternative to socialize and bond with friends and family. Through MEDIRun, we aim to get as many people into the running habit and consequently help make positive changes in their lives,” says MEDICard president Dr. Nicky S. Montoya.
Slated on May 19 at Bonifacio Global City, MEDIRun will showcase a 100-meter toddler and kiddie dash as well as 3K, 5K and 10K race categories. Prizes will be given away to the first podium finishers in the 100m, 10K, 5K, and 3K race categories of both the men’s and women’s divisions. .
Registration fee is at P450 for non-MEDICard members, P350 for MEDICard members, and P200 for toddlers. Registration is at Chris Sports branches and select Medicard branches: Alabang, Fairview, Las Piñas, The Lifestyle Center-Makati, Ortigas, Quezon City, and Santa Rosa.
To ensure a complete, healthy experience, participants will receive pre-race checkup vouchers which entitle them to free and special rates for select run-related tests that can be availed at MEDICard clinics. These include free cholesterol screening, free triglycerides test, free checkup with a primary care physician, 30-percent discount on treadmill stress test, and 20-percent discount on lipid profiling. Toddlers and kids also get a free complete blood count test. To add to the fanfare, runners will get to “Run with Doc” as partner doctors will be running in their lab gowns/scrubs.
