MANILA, Philippines - Reinforcing the value of nutrition in education, the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the country’s pioneer in corporate citizenship, held its feeding activity to 80 students of Kabaka (Kabalikat ng Barangay sa Kaunlaran) Day Care Center in Intramuros, Manila last July 15.
Aside from the provision of nutritious food, PBSP gave the kids and their parents a brief lecture on healthy diet, which is essential in the growing-up years.
According to Ma. Rowena Cruz, Kabaka Day Care teacher, PBSP’s food program supports the Center’s initiative to stress the importance of good health to quality learning.
“I always teach the kids that health is very important,” says Cruz.
Students participated in interactive games, which highlighted the significance of mental and physical strengths. Wholesome snacks, toothbrushes, and school supplies were also given away.
The feeding activity coincides with the celebration of Nutrition Month in July.
With the program already in its sixth year, PBSP continues to organize this social effort to keep the kids in class with bright minds and full stomachs.
A recent survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) fielded June 3-6, 2011 reveals that an estimated 7.2 million (36 percent) Filipinos consider themselves as food-poor which is four points down from 40 percent in the previous quarter.
