Hoop, hoop, hooray for Milo champs!

MANILA, Philippines - Basketball fever raged stronger than ever when hoop stars Chris Tiu and JV Casio helped unleash the champion within during the recent Milo 3in1 for Adults 3on3 Warrior Championship — an exciting inter-university 3-on-3 basketball tournament that also featured the present college star cagers from Ateneo, UP, UST, FEU, NU, and UE.

School spirit was definitely high as students, alumni, and fans of participating schools trooped to the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym on Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, where they got to interact with their college basketball idols Chris and JV, who gamely mingled with the players and fans by posing for photos and sharing basketball tips, stories, and experiences. “This tournament features great universities with grand basketball traditions. It’s the ideal event for college basketball stars to play and unleash the champion within,” says Chris.

Showing their support during the event were Nestlé executives led by SVP and business executive manager for beverages Dennis Austriaco, AVP and Milo consumer marketing manager Stephanie Toh-Sy, AVP and Milo sports events executive Pat Goc-ong, VP and marketing, promotions, and events department head Ruth Novales, MPED cluster head for beverages Carlos Vergara, Milo 3in1 for Adults consumer marketing executive Karl Villuga, Milo brand champion Yvette Papasin, and Milo PR and sports executive Andrew Neri. Former PBA stalwarts Elmer Reyes and Alvin Teng also graced the event.

The tournament was held to coincide with the recent launch of Milo 3in1 for Adults, which offers the complete creamy mix of Milo, milk and sugar plus energy-releasing Actigen-E. Milo 3in1 for Adults also has 520 mg. of calcium covering 2/3 of the recommended daily allowance of an adult’s daily calcium needs for bone strength. “Holding a 3on3 basketball tournament perfectly complements Milo 3in1 for Adults because it features an excellent display of excitement, competitiveness and skill, attributes that Milo 3in1 for Adults wants to unleash in everyone,” says Villuga.

“The level of competition was really high, which made for a great experience. We’re very fortunate that Milo is always there to give support to athletes,” says NU guard Joseph Hermosisima.

UST guard Jeric Fortuna says it’s great that Milo staged the event because it’s “an excellent opportunity to give other players the exposure and experience to help discover and unleash the champion within.”

Capping the exciting activities was, of course, an intense dose of basketball action courtesy of the participants. The gripping championship match had fans of both NU and FEU cheering wildly. NU’s Joseph Hermosisima, Emmanuel Mlebe, and Joseph Nlepe displayed great determination to win, teamwork, and flawless shot execution to take home the P200,000 worth of sports development equipment, which is part of the goal of Milo to help build champions in life.

Other tournament participants were John Paul Erram, Norman Penola, and Jayvee Dumrique for the Ateneo Blue Eagles; Mark Lopez, Alinko and Woody Co for the UP Maroons; Melo Afuang, Jeric Teng, and Fortuna for the UST Tigers; and Adrian Santos, Kenneth Acibar, and Raphy Reyes of the UE Red Warriors. The players were chosen by the public who have shown their competitive spirit by voting for their favorite basketball warriors online
