Separating fat from fiction

MANILA, Philippines - Cellulite is fat which is stored in pockets below the surface of the skin around the hips, thighs, and buttocks. It is more apparent than other fats deposited deeper in the body. Cellulite appears to be small bulges or “dimples” in the areas affected because collagen fibers, connecting fat to the skin, stretch, break down, or are pulled tight, allowing the fat cells to bulge out. This leads to a rippled look or dimples.

Cellulite occurs in both men and women, although it’s more common among the latter. Because the body has layers of fat, even people who have slender or thin bodies develop cellulite.

You can check if you have cellulite in your body by pinching the skin around the upper thigh. If skin looks lumpy, there is probably cellulite under that skin. Other names for cellulite are orange peel syndrome, cottage cheese skin, mattress phenomenon, and hail syndrome.

Genes play a crucial role in the body’s cellulite buildup. More often, though, cellulite is associated with poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, low levels of estrogen, and even with constrictive undergarments. Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and organically grown fiber, sans pesticides and commercial fertilizers, proper hydration, regular physical exercise, healthy weight maintenance, and non-smoking are deterrents to developing cellulite.

It is said however that no amount of precautionary measures can curb cellulite once it is present in the body. Although it is not a high health risk and affects people on the aesthetic level, doctors have recognized cellulite as one of the legitimate concerns of men and women.

Instead of going under the knife and spending a fortune to remove cellulite, there are a number of drugs which have been formulated to act as therapeutic agents against fatty deposits under the skin.

Beauty Elements Inc., a growing beauty company that launched the phenomenal Kojie.san soap, introduces its innovative anti-cellulite cream that is made from organic and natural materials. Beauty Elements’ Kontur cellulite control cream contains the powerful combination of phytofirm LCA and algae extract to fight unsightly cellulite and unwanted curves.

This revolutionary scientific breakthrough prevents the accumulation of fats and excess water that tend to trap themselves just below the surface of the skin.

The new Kontur cellulite control cream has three basic active ingredients: L-carnitine promotes the burning of stored fats, converting this into energy; algae extract complements L-itine to moisturize skin and make it firmer, softer, and smoother; caffeine, a powerful antioxidant, aids in the prevention of the skin’s cellular damage, notes Beauty Elements marketing manager Jewel Monfero.

“Kontur is an effective remedy against cellulite and lets one achieve a perfect and more striking body, its active ingredients having been scientifically confirmed to stimulate lipolysis activity, minimize fat in the skin, and improve skin relief,” adds Montero.
