MANILA, Philippines - Eavesdrop on any typical boy talk and you’d hear lots about women, women and well, women. Boys, as they say, will always be boys. But when the gabfest over who’s hot and sexy is finally over, expect the conversation to be all about the “other woman,” or the one they’re most passionate about and will give anything for: sports. Boys suddenly become men and the testosterone-filled chin-wagging becomes even more exciting.
It’s machismo overload as we all dig in to a frothy outpour of tips, truths and trivia about five of the most eligible (read: hottest) bachelors of today as they share one afternoon of coffee-girls-sports-and-everything-boys at the new Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Bar at The Fort, the brand’s flagship store.
Brewing hot and tasty, these are our “boys over coffee.”
Zanjoe Marudo: On Paris, bananas and swinging like Tiger Woods
Since his stint on the syndicated reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother Season 1 Celebrity edition, Zanjoe has gone from “it” cover boy to hit leading man. Fresh from the city of love, celebrating the success of ABS-CBN’s Lovers in Paris where he starred alongside Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion, he’s now regularly seen throwing one-liners and pulling pranks in the gag show Banana Split, which officially added another title to his name, hunk comedian. Not to mention, he’s a golfer, too. Move over, Tiger!
First swing. It was Direk Bobot Mortiz who swayed him to try out golf. He says although it seemed kind of outside his personality at first, it turned out to be an interesting and stress-relieving activity for him. Rule number one, he says: “You gotta have a signature swing. It’s the best attitude to have in the field.”
Goin’ bananas. Zanjoe admits he enjoys getting “crazy” whenever he is on the Banana Split set. And he thanks buddies John (Prats) and Jason (Gainza) for unleashing his inner “Simpson.” Acting or plain naturale, it sure works!
His girl. Big turn-ons for Zanjoe: pretty, low-maintenance, good sense of humor, successful, preferably a “cowgirl” with luscious lips. (Mariel Rodriguez in five words.)
Paris love. The best thing about Paris, says Zanjoe, is the fact that it is such a very beautiful and romantic place. “I didn’t feel like we were working at all. Like my character Martin, I feel like I went there just to fall in love. And I did, with Paris.”
His Segafredo favorite. He can never forget Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Bar’s very own in-house chocolate cake called Amnesia. He says it’s “a dessert to die for.” He loves having a macchiato, espresso with milk and foam, too. The guy loves sweets!
Luke Jickain: On his ideal Posh Spice and kicking hard
In the realms of fashion and entertainment, Luke is always at the top of mind. We’ve seen his edgy poses in fashion spreads for almost every magazine title we know, heard about how he rocked runways from Manila to New York and we just can’t get enough of him. Without doubt, every time admirers see him transform from one stunning look to another, jaws drop and they’re left tongue-tied. For buddies who know the man’s sport, the ultimate fashionista who also happens to be every stylista’s favorite is simply David Beckham. He’s boiling hot, kicks hard and plays rough.
His Victoria. Luke’s ideal girl need not be as ultra-sassy as Posh Spice. According to him, an easy-going girl who he can connect with is all he needs. Connect the dots, ladies.
Big goal. On top of Luke’s future plans is to have a grand debut on the big screen with a role that could win him an acting award. Go, Luke!
Metrosexual alert. Unlike most men, Luke has no problem being called a metrosexual. He says “I don’s see any problem with wanting to smell and look good all the time. It’s one of the coolest compliments a man can get. At least I know people notice that I know how to take care of myself.”
Simple Luke. His football idol is David Beckham. So does this mean he comes with a high price tag and is a little high maintenance? The answer: No! Luke says he’s just a simple man who enjoys the game as much as he enjoys living life.
His Segafredo favorite. The Shakerato (iced espresso) is Luke’s choice, best to have after a meal and it goes well with his very active lifestyle.
Enchong Dee: On being Superman, young and in love
Who wouldn’t find a charming, nice, talented and smart young boy irresistible? The long list of good words just never ends when talking about Enchong Dee, or “Jojo” to the countless fans of one of the highest rating primetime dramas of 2009, Katorse, and now “Jomari” in the recently launched Tanging Yaman, both ABS-CBN shows which he stars in with partner Erich Gonzales. Outside show business, he’s “Chong” — brother, son, champion swimmer and (maybe) boyfriend.
Record breaker. In the UAAP 72nd season, Enchong was named MVP for the Men’s Swimming category for the third time. He took home seven gold medals in seven events and broke four records which won his alma mater its first men’s swimming title since 2002. Beat that!
Dee Ambassador. In-between his very busy schedules, Enchong takes time to pursue his masteral studies in developmental policy at the De La Salle University. He dreams of being an ambassador of the Philippines to the United States.
Lover boy. His Facebook shout-out says, “I’d rather have bad times with you than good and moody days with someone else... seriously!” So who’s the lucky girl? A lot of girls are jealous and they want to know the competition.
Super yoghurt. How busy boy Enchong indulges in some good old “me time”? A Smallville DVD marathon matched with packs of yummy frozen yoghurt.
His Segafredo favorite. Good for Enchong who’s a huge pizza lover is Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Bar, which offers a line-up of yummy pizza treats. The one he likes most is Alle Melanzane filled with mozzarella, eggplant, garlic, capers and oregano.
Joseph Marco: On being ‘most wanted’
Yes, he’s that boy! From fastfood chain to chocolate bar to beverage commercials, name it, he’s done it. One of the freshest fast-rising models of today, Joseph Marco is definitely hard not to notice. The hottest boy-next-door to watch out for and a talent ripe for the picking. (He sings, dances, acts and oh, he plays the guitar, too.) With a whole new set of great projects lined up for 2010, we can only hope that the most wanted model will be on top where he belongs. And hopefully, he’ll be staying there for quite a long time.
Hoops fanatic. JM’s hardcourt idol is the great MJ. Ever since he was a kid, he says the basketball legend has always inspired him in many ways. His favorite MJ quote: “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.”
Fast break. The quickest relationship he had lasted for six months. Talk about a fast break.
Greatest goal. Joseph’s biggest dream is to become an actor and eventually earn enough to put up his own business. Asked where he’ll venture to when that day comes, his quick answer: food. He loves Japanese and Italian cuisines.
Last two minutes. Who he plans to spend his last two minutes on earth with? His mom. And according to him “the reason why he works hard to make it.”
His Segafredo favorite. Joseph loves the bar’s iced espressos particularly the Iced Latte Freddo. He says it’s perfect for him because he’s always on the go.
Marvin Raymundo: On being a ‘chick magnet’
When Marvin was hailed “Mr. Personality” in the 2008 Manhunt International World contest, winning over 50 other equally dashing “demigods,” those who once believed he was just another pretty face thought maybe he has more than just good looks up his sleeves. And they were right. With a string of modeling and acting stints that followed after his win up to the present, the former ASAP cover-boy continues to charm many, proving that a candid, genuine personality always outshines a gorgeous face. Probably the reason why he got the tag “chick magnet.” Marvin, as people who know him say, is synonymous with “sense plus sex appeal.” For the ladies, that’s a winning combination.
Wimbledon wow factor. Marvin’s a huge tennis buff. He plays weekly with friends for leisure and sometimes, he even competes, too… and wins! Now that’s sporty sexy.
Mekeni pride. Our Mr. Personality is a proud Kapampangan, born and raised in San Fernando, Pampanga. And yes, he knows how to cook mekeni style!
Crazy for canines. Marvin’s head over heels in love with a guy named Milo — his two-year-old black Labrador. Milo wears a yellow belt and Marvin says the accessory’s “political in nature.” Go figure!
Marvin maverick. Aside from tennis, Marvin also plays basketball and is a big fan of the game. His favorite NBA team is the Dallas Mavericks.
His Segafredo favorite. Marvin goes crazy for Segafredo Zanetti Espresso Bar’s panini (sandwich) called Muffuletta made with pepperoni, ham, mozzarella and garlic oregano dressing matched with only the best iced espresso in town — the Iced Latte Freddo. Yummy!
