Top performing men talk about their dream cars

MANILA, Philippines - In a man’s adrenaline-filled world, it’s all about finding means to fuel the drive for success. And if there’s one thing that can truly complement a man’s fast-paced lifestyle, it’s definitely a car. And these are not just ordinary cars. Men are generally passionate about the car’s looks, accessories, and of course, power and top performance.

For the country’s top performing men, nothing could be better than zooming through the streets in a road-gobbling, spacious, and fuel efficient muscle machine. And just like women, these expensive toys for the big boys have to be sexy and attractive at the same time.

With a variety of blazing speedsters and classic cars on display, the “Rexona Men V8 Top Performance Car Series” makes its way through Metro Manila on the following dates: until July 31 at SM Makati, SM Mall of Asia, SM Cubao and SM Southmall; tomorrow until Aug. 4 at SM Fairview; August 4 to 15 at SM Marikina, SM Pampanga, SM North Edsa, SM Megamall and SM Fairview.

JC Cuadrado, TV host-actor: Just a BMW X5 — as long as it’s color black. It’s a car for a self-made man.

Robi Joseph, RT 99.5 DJ: My dream car is the Audi TT. It’s sleek, sexy, stylish and sinewy but a monster beneath its lavish good looks.

Jayvee Fernandez, Splashpress Media editor in chief: Hands down it would have to be the Tesla Roadster by Tesla Motors. It’s probably the geekiest — and simultaneously the sexiest car ever made. It can go from 0 to 100 kph in less than four seconds and runs on a lithium ion battery pack. A full charge can get you almost 400 km. Because it runs on battery, the car is very silent so the Tesla community has developed hacks that allow you to alter the sound of the Roadster. The favorite thus far is the hum of a tie fighter when you accelerate.

Jinno Rufino, TV host-model: They say, your car says a lot about you. It’s an extension of one’s self. The Buggati Veyron may not be the most popular super-car in the world, nor would it turn as many heads as say a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, but once you ride on it, you will never forget it.

Jeroen Van Straten Benmark Group Holdings managing director: For the last 25 years, my dream car has been the Jaguar XJ. My uncle had one and, for me, it’s the ultimate rich man’s car — a true British classic which only the rich with taste has. Today, there is the All New Jaguar XJ, sporting a different look that we are used to but it is awesome and brilliant in design. It’s beautiful contemporary luxury car. When you have this car, you need to have a chauffeur and it’s good because I don’t have a driver’s license — I was born to be driven! One day, I will own a Jaguar XJ!

James Antolin, Institute of Culinary Arts and Food Service program director, and Pastry Alliance of the Philippines vice president: Someday, I would like to own a red or silver 2009 Ferrari F430 — rated as one of the 6 Best Cars in the World. Much as I enjoy the thrill of speed, this Ferrari model was recorded to achieve 0 to 60 mph acceleration run in 3.5 seconds. The third fastest among Ferrari cars! Now that should answer my need for speed!

Paolo Manzano, Hardware Magazine editor in chief: I have always wanted a BMW 3-series Touring. First, because it is a rare sight in our streets. Second, BMW has always appealed to me as a subtle gentleman’s car. And lastly, I like the “family values” feel that driving around in a Station Wagon gives off. I have always believed that this car will provide me with the versatility that I need for both family purposes and male adrenaline fueled moments.
