MANILA, Philippines - For foodies looking for no nonsense comfort food and creative fusion, Stockton place is definitely a place worth braving Makati traffic for.
This newly opened restaurant easily found its way to looloo's top recommendations and I thought this would be a perfect place to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday without having to go too far. Living up to the high praises of fellow looloo users, we were far from disappointed!
We first tried the butternut squash soup with goat cheese tortellini, which was nothing short of scrumptious. The richness of the squash brought out the tanginess of the goat cheese and made for one "mmmm"-inducing slurp after another.
We then tried the foie gras salad, a pleasant surprise for us non-fans of arugula. The peanut puree dressing tempered the smokiness of the arugula and was just enough to make sure the foie gras still stood out.
I chose to have the sweet potato tortellini as my main course while the boyfriend had the crispy pork belly. The tortellini was lightly drenched in brown butter sauce and hazelnut crumbs (who knew that would make such a great combo?!). The pork belly on the other hand had sidings of what seemed to be tasty herbed mashed potatoes and a sweet onion puree. I have to say I liked my pasta dish more than my boyfriend's pork belly (his main course, I mean) but I'd recommend either (or both at the same time) for those trying it out for the first time.
We finished with the lemon parfait with lavender petals which I would've appreciated more if I hadn't been so full from the other courses! (Generous servings helped with that!) But it was a sweet ending to a fulfilling meal.
The prices were a bit high for me if you'd eat here on a regular basis but just right for special occasions. I also commend the service (from the reservations receptionist to the waiters to the security guard) for a job well done!
