New maki masterpieces at Red Kimono

MANILA, Philippines - Red Kimono introduces five new and exclusive “Maki Masterpiece.” In celebration of their fifth year anniversary, Red Kimono went all out with an exciting culinary fete “My Maki Masterpiece Challenge.”

Red Kimono, in partnership with Citibank, Destiny Cable, Speedo, Nike Park, Mossimo, Sanuk and Curves, embarked on a unique campaign inviting customers, Facebook fans, and the general public to participate in the event.

The contest was open to the public with the participants encouraged to think out-of-the-box using unusual ingredients and varied culinary inspirations that are not necessarily Japanese. Even people who have never cooked had the chance to enter the contest. A video demo posted on Red Kimono’s Facebook Fan page gave a quick lesson on the techniques of maki-making.

Given a free hand on making the delicious makis, the contest gave rise to one-of-a-kind maki recipes that were not only very original but also equally delicious. From breakfast and vegetarian to even dessert makis, the contestants presented a variety of flavors, ingredients, and combinations.

Out of the 10 final entries, five emerged as winners with the help of six prominent personalities as judges. They were model and jewelry designer Tweetie de Leon Gonzales, Philippine Marketing Association chairman Ricky de Vera, Philippine Wine Merchants and Ralph Wines & Spirits’ and 99.5RT DJ Robi Joseph, cultural activist and artist/performer Carlos Celdran, Enderun College dean Dr. Edgardo Rodriguez, and ABS- CBN Publishing head Ernie Lopez.
