MANILA, Philippines – Durian mooncake makes its debut at Mandarin Oriental, Manila as its signature specialty in this year’s Mid-Autumn Moon celebration. The durian mooncake, popular in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, is the newest addition to the hotel’s offering of snow skin, lotus, bean, taro, milk custard and other specialty mooncakes.
The hotel also celebrates this significant Chinese festival with a buffet dinner, fun, frolic and prizes at the sheung yuet night, when it welcomes the moon on Oct. 2, 6 p.m. at the Captain’s Bar. The grand raffle prize is a trip to Hong Kong courtesy of Philippine Airlines with accommodations at a luxury partner hotel in Hong Kong.
Co-sponsored by Ayala Land, the riveting celebration centers on an auspicious paai shan ritual and a lantern-lighting ceremony by international geomancer Joseph Chau, to augur positive chi. Other raffle prizes at stake are vacation packages from Anvaya Cove, Bellarocca Resort and Spa, Maribago Bluewaters Resort and Spa, and Mandarin Oriental, Manila.
Sheung Yuet tickets are available at P1,288+ for adults, and P788+ for children ages 12 and below. Mandarin Oriental’s moon-cakes are available at Tin Hau, Mandarin Deli, Lobby booth, and at MO Café & Deli at Gateway Mall, until Oct. 3.
