Rachelle Ann Go won in the Search for A Star three years ago and has three albums to date. Her first self-titled album has gone double platinum with such songs as Don’t Cry Out Loud, Love Of My Life, and From The Start. Her second album, "I Care," has gone gold with the revival song Promise Me, and Bakit, the theme song for the soap opera Miranda de Mujer. Produced by Italian producer Christian Walden, the album consists of mostly fast songs and two Tagalog ones. Her latest album, "Obsession," has the carrier single Don’t Say Goodbye. She is about to tour San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego, Alameda, and Hanford. When she comes back, she will leave for Australia with Mark Bautista, and Sarah Geronimo for concerts in Sydney.
She can’t help recall her first-ever concert when she filled up the Araneta Coliseum for the "Night of the Champions" concert with Erik Santos, Sarah Geronimo, Christian Bautista, Raymond Manalo, and Mark Bautista. The concert went on to tour four cities in the US. Another concert, "Pinoy Idols," toured 11 cities in the US. Last year, she had her first major solo concert at the Aliw Theater. She’s now keeping her fingers crossed because she has a couple of international projects in the pipeline.
She believes she might have inherited her singing talent from her mother, who used to sing in a band that traveled to Japan. Her father is into musical instruments, from the guitar to drums. She can play drums aside from belting out high tunes.
However, her mother’s influence does not end with singing, because Rachelle learned the art of cooking from her, too. When she was little, she used to watch her mother cook; now she can cook her own humba, kare-kare, and gising-gising.
For the Philippine STAR, she and Christian try to recreate their own version of the adobo, which she learned from composer Vehnee Saturno. "Ang sarap sarap ng adobo ni Mr Vehnee Saturno. Nagkataon, we ate in his house twice, and adobo was served each time. His secret pala is to just mix everything and to use lots of garlic," she explains.
Christian, on the other hand, is more into eating. He claims he can eat anything  from snake dishes to something even more exotic. This landscape architecture graduate from the University of the Philippines went into theater and fell in love with it. With his experience in Trumpets, he tried out for Star in a Million and placed third runner-up.
However, being in third place was not a hindrance to him and to manager Carlo Orosa, who went with him to Warner Music to audition. His signature song, The Way You Look At Me by Andrew Fromm, was originally given to a female singer in Europe who did not use the song. Thus, he recorded it with Warner. And that song catapulted him to the number one spot in the local radio charts. That song is also number one in Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.
His self-titled album with the song Hands To Heaven has gone triple platinum here and double platinum in Indonesia. His second album, "Completely," has also gone gold, while his latest, Christian Bautista Live, is sure to be on the list of must-have albums because it contains remakes of well-loved songs, such as Trying To Get The Feeling and Got To Believe In Magic. As of press time, the album has already turned gold.
Christian got into acting when he essayed Lorenzo the sacristan who falls in love with Anne Curtis in the soap Kampanerang Kuba. He made his movie debut in Mano Po 6, the Metro Manila Film Fest hit that starred Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin. Now, he is doing the movie Love Is All That Matters with Rachelle for Regal Films.
They do work together a lot, from touring the US for concerts, shooting movies, and hosting ASAP on ABS-CBN on Sundays, but this is their first time to cook together. The result, I must say, is delicious. Even their production assistants agree. They finished cooking in less than 15 minutes.
1/2 cup Marca Piña soy sauce
1/2 cup vinegar
1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cube chicken stock
1/2 kilo pork liempo
1/2 kilo chichen
1 teaspoon butter
Mix garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, whole peppercorns, chicken stock cube, and butter in a stockpot. Add the meats and cover. Wait for 30 to 40 minutes until the meat becomes brown and softens.
1/4 kilo ground pork
3/4 kilo Baguio beans, minced
4 cups gata (coconut milk)
5 cloves garlic
siling labuyo
1 whole onion
1 cup pork cube mixed in water
Fry minced Baguio beans in oil. Take out the beans and sauté the onion, garlic, and ground pork in the remaining oil until the meat becomes brown. Add one cup gata until it thickens. Simmer. Add three more cups of gata. Add the Baguio beans last. Add salt to taste. Siling labuyo is recommended to awaken your taste buds.
