MANILA, Philippines — The upcoming The Miss Philippines pageant is setting the bar high for its inaugural edition by adopting a format somewhat distinct than those utilized by other pageants.
The Miss Philippines is aiming to "reinvent pageantry... [in] a unique way of gathering beautiful Filipinas around the world," making it stand out from long-running local pageants such as Miss Universe Philippines and Binibining Pilipinas.

Some major departures of the pageant is that it is doing away with the often staple swimsuit competition, and formal wear segment will incorporate a red carpet segment along the lines of the Cannes Film Festival.
Would-be contestants will also be giving Ted Talks-like speeches and draw further emphasis on how they will promote the Philippines to the world.
The Miss Philippines recently extended applications for its inaugural edition until September 9 to accommodate applicants coming from the provinces and abroad; applicants must be single women of Filipino heritage between the ages of 18 and 32.
While applications continue, screening of applicants proceed on September 2 and deadline day (both Saturdays) at the Enderun Design & Innovation Campus in Pasig's Estancia Mall.
Winners of The Miss Philippines pageant to be held in October will compete at the Miss Supranational or Miss Charm pageants.
Miss Supranational 2023 1st runner-up Pauline Amelinckx was named the first-ever The Miss Philippines earlier this month after returning home from the pageant, and is prepared to crown a successor.
Coinciding with these developments is the application process of Mister Pilipinas Worldwide, wherein winners will succeed current titleholder Johannes Rissler and represent the country in the Mister Supranational, Mister Global, or Manhunt Supermodel pageants.
Screening and applications for Mister Pilipinas Worldwide follow the same details as The Miss Philippines, and winners of both pageants will also become ambassadors for Philippine culture and heritage at The Filipino Festival also in October.
