Spanish brand Cortefiel is for cool nerds & adventure girls

Do or denim: Versatile denim in slim, contemporary silhouettes stand out in Cortefiel’s latest collection, available at Cortefiel boutiques.

MANILA, Philippines - There is a staggering number of adventurers on social media — and can you really blame them? It’s a fun way to live. Whether the posts show a real lifestyle or wishful willing, the movement has influenced a few trends, not only in fashion, but in music, food and outlook as well.

Cortefiel’s latest collection trades in the usual fall glamour for a more rugged look that echoes the spirit of adventure. This is not a collection of JakPaks — it’s a subtle translation of outdoorsy fashion for the city. Think fleece coats, but slim and cropped. Knee-high riding boots, but polished. Bubble jackets, but not so nerdy. And yeah, comfortable shoes.

The well-loved brand from Madrid recently arrived in the Philippines, opening its first three stores in in Bonifacio High Street’s Central Square, Estancia Mall in Capitol Commons and Glorietta 3. Known for its comfort-driven interpretation of trends, Cortefiel’s fall/winter collection channels adventure through contemporary lines and quality fabrics. The collection may have a watered-down color palette of navy, brown and black, but the pieces make Instagram-worthy photos just the same — whether taken against the backdrop of a busy city street, or roughing it in the mountains.

For women, the three trends stand out: Black and White, Denim, and the influence of folk. Leather jackets, biker-style leggings and floaty tops make up the new working girl uniform. Denim injects youth into the range with a combination of textures and unexpected shapes. The nod to folk and boho is subtle but clear, with boot-cut jeans, leather, suede, racoon faux-fur and mohair. Camel and toasted tones top off the earthy vibe.

For men, it’s a more sporty line with a mix of garments inspired by gymwear. Denim shirts are worn with joggers, ripped jeans or quilted jackets. Backpacks and sneakers make it extra easy to run off to somewhere on a whim, perhaps to take one of those long-exposure rooftop shots that get so much love. The suit has become more casual, and can be mixed with knitwear and sneakers. Outerwear is the key to the new urban style, which is, of course, all about looking smart and cool at once.
