Ben Sherman takes flight with the parachute

Ben Sherman draws inspiration from extreme sporting gear creating an edgy yet functional style

MANILA, Philippines - British menswear brand Ben Sherman soars to new sartorial heights this season, referencing to an extreme sporting gear as the jumping-off point for its spring/summer 2014 collection put together for the man who takes calculated fashion risks.

Called the Plectrum by Ben Sherman: The Parachute Collection, Ben Sherman draws inspiration from the skeletal frame and internal construction of the parachute interpreted in geometric patterns and graphical prints found on crisp oxford shirts, long-sleeves, work jackets and blazers.

As a brand recognized in clothing history for using only the best quality fabric, it follows that considered choice of textile also plays a key element in the brand’s spring/summer compendium. Knitwear has been crafted in compact mercerized cotton, allowing for ease of movement, comfort and functional style. A specially developed nylon, meanwhile, integrates the classic Ben Sherman check creating varied textures on shirts, jackets and cardigans.

Ben Sherman applies components of the parachute to some of the pieces in the collection. For instance, a rucksack with leather harness belts; crew neck jumpers featuring a sand formation print; engineered shirts and shorts with an illustrated parachutist.

The classic parka gets a rework to suit the modern man, crafted in the same mercerized cotton with a peaked hood and padded, removable inner-jacket – making the outerwear a wardrobe staple that is both classic and contemporary.

Ben Sherman is owned and operated by Robinsons Specialty Stores Inc. (RSSI), a subsidiary of Robinsons Retails Holdings, Inc. with stores at Robinsons Magnolia and Shangri-La Plaza
