Miss Universe 1973 Margie Moran Floirendo became a senior citizen with a roaring bang. This beauty and brains with a heart (she heads many civic and social groups nationwide) certainly showed us that life begins at 60 with an invitation stating, “No matter what my mirror tells me, it took me 60 years to age to perfection. Party with me as I celebrate a splendiferous life.â€
Proudly showing off her age and toned figure, Margie proved to us that there’s nothing to fear or be ashamed of as one matures. She refused to succumb to invasive surgery — acknowledging that growing old should be done gracefully.
The mix of good friends, colleagues and family created a super fun atmosphere that had everyone trooping to the lighted dance floor to enjoy the ‘70s music of the Mulatto band. It was also a perfect excuse to shed some calories with the ladies outnumbering and outdancing the males in attendance at Whitespace in Makati.
Margie gamely danced with three male partners at her disco-themed party. A special presentation featured the Ballet Philippines corps with the inimitable Mitch Valdez who brought the house down with her hilarious martial law jokes and songs of the ‘70s, which we all loved and fondly remembered. The Aldeguer sisters gamely danced their synchronized routine that still cannot be emulated by the younger dancers of today.
Cocoy Laurel lovingly sang to his former movie partner. Since we seniorellas (I should not use the term old fogeys) went home before midnight, we missed Apl.d.Ap who rendered a couple of songs to the delight of the guests who stayed behind. How I wish I had stayed longer to listen to a world-famous talent and generous superstar who loves to give back to the Philippines, the land of his birth.
