HI, REGINA!
I went out of the country with my family recently and noticed that my skin got sooo dry on the plane! It even felt a little flaky. What gives? What do I do next time?
PAT
Nothing is more drying than a pressurized airplane cabin. There’s zero humidity in the air, it’s super cold; no wonder your skin got dehydrated so fast.
If it’s a quick flight, make sure to moisturize before you leave the house to hit the airport. If you use a gel moisturizer in the daytime, use a heavier, creamier moisturizer instead. (Try Olay’s Regenerist Microsculpting Cream; I love it to death.) And don’t neglect your under-eye area! It’s probably the most sensitive on your face, and needs moisture before takeoff, too. Try not to wear makeup unless you absolutely have to, but if you must, use something hydrating. Consider packing one of those purse-friendly facial spritzes (below 50mL is good) to refresh yourself without having to get out of your seat, and drink lots of water.
If it’s a long-haul flight, the same advice applies, except you should also bring your moisturizer with you on the plane to moisturize your skin as necessary. Make sure it’s 50mL or less. You can also opt to use a hydrating masque, like Clinique’s, to nourish your skin while you sleep on the flight. And again, drink as much water as you can.

Once more with peeling: A skin regimen is a must
DEAR LUCY,
I really have very little time to go to the derma, but I also acknowledge that they clean my face best. What can I do to tide me well between visits?
BEMBEM
A good skincare regimen is a must for everyone, and I suppose by now, you already have one that really works for you. In case you don’t yet, I suggest you do make that trip to your derma to ask. I have creams I can’t live without, like my Anew Genics Treatment Concentrate, which I use every day, first mixed with my tinted liquid foundation and then as the last cream I apply to my face and neck at night. I love how it smells on my skin, too. But to tide me over visits to the derma, I use a gentle peel once or twice a week. Perhaps you can try Kiehl’s Over-Night Biological Peel. It really gets the job done, gently renewing skin. It is especially nice in the nose area because it works at reducing pore size as well.

The rule is there are no rules
DEAR RISSA,
Is it okay to combine or layer different brands of mascara?
RIA
For me, there are no rules when it comes to beauty. The only rule is to keep things hygienic. For some women, lipstick can double duty as blush. Me, I use bronzer as eyebrow powder! Go ahead and combine different brands of mascara. I sometimes do that, too — I use one mascara to thicken the roots and another to lengthen my lashes.
You are probably like me who has yet to find the perfect mascara. In the meantime, we can always experiment — that’s the best way to make wonderful beauty discoveries.
