Avel Bacudio designs hip, affordable denim jeans

Many familiar with Avel Bacudio may recognize the designer from his regular stint on the reality series Generation Mega: Search for the Next Top Fashion Crew as the judge equipped with pithy remarks or his line found in department stores. But Bacudio has more up his sleeve than dressy ensembles. His collection of denim for Boardwalk is a hip mix of finishes and washes. Debuted on the runway with a Native American theme, models like Ria Bolivar garbed in OTT feathered headdresses and moccasins trooped the catwalk in leather vests with raw-edged seams and extended fringe topping figure-hugging jeans.

While the pairing works for venues demanding a large, costume-y theme, we worked his collection with autumnal separates that take advantage of the season’s cooler climes. Here, mixed with vintage and thrifted sweaters, Bacudio’s denim line proves versatile — whether worn with feathered toppers or a cool cardi.
