These lipglosses are simply Adora-ble

Dear Rissa,

Can you recommend a good brand of lipgloss that gives a long-lasting shine? I noticed that the lipglosses of red-carpet celebrities stay shiny all night. Also, all lipglosses are irritatingly sticky. Please recommend one that is not.

Princess Cheng

I have never been a fan of lipgloss because you’re right — they are irritatingly sticky. When hair goes onto your face and lips, you end up with strands sticking to your lips. And when you brush off the hair away from your face, the sticky lipgloss smears on your cheeks. But recently, I finally discovered a lipgloss that gives great shine without the stickiness! Since I’m not a fan of lipglosses, I didn’t buy it. A friend gave it to me and now, I’m so glad I received that gift! It was a wonderful discovery.

You must try Becca Glossy Lip Tint (exclusively available at Adora Department Store, Greenbelt 5, Makati). This silky gloss conditions the lips with long-lasting lacquer and shine, without feeling sticky. I gave the Becca Glossy Lip Tint in the shade Caipirinha a road test last Sunday. I really like how it’s deliciously scented with a hint of strawberry, not the super fruity dizzying kind but like a light parfait that’s refreshingly perfect for summer. The first thing I noticed was how the Becca Glossy Lip Tint made my lips look fuller. It spelled sexy lips in an instant. It also gave a beautiful radiant shine, the kind that looks kissable — not the overly thick oily-looking shine other glosses give.

To give it the ultimate test, I applied it only once before leaving the house. We watched a movie that day and I must say, the long-lasting power of the Becca Glossy Lip Tint was quite impressive. I still had a sexy shine and hue on my lips even after the movie. I like how the translucent color seemed to flatter Asian skin. I think this will be great to wear alone or over lipstick. Best of all, it never felt heavy or sticky throughout the day. It’s the most comfortable lipgloss I’ve ever tired! This lightweight lipgloss is a heavyweight in the lip gloss arena. I’m now a convert.

‘I love lucy and her makeup brands’

Dear Lucy,

Oil right: Shiseido Makeup Dual Balancing Foundation SPF 17 is a long-lasting oil-free liquid foundation formulated with hyaluronic acid and hydro-wrap vitalizing DE complex to moisturize dry areas of the skin.

I am as fair as you are and I really enjoy rotating brands of makeup. I know you are loyal in the sense that you pretty much stick to those you’ve tried that work for you, but aside from the brands you’ve already shared, is there something you’ve discovered of late?

Also, I saw a shift dress you were wearing on the cover of Yes magazine with Gretchen Barretto. May I know where you bought that please?

And lastly, this is a question for beauty of the home, I hope you don’t mind. Where can I buy cushion covers and sheets in unique colors and designs? I am redecorating some rooms in our home and I am tired of plain fabric in solid colors.

Bea

I am loving now (ever since I tried it last month) The Makeup from Shiseido. Their Dual Balancing Foundation is gorgeous on the skin, it settles so flawlessly and seamlessly. To set it, I use their sheer pressed powder or my ever reliable RMK compact.

If you are looking for an eye concealer, on top of my list, along with YSL’s Touche Eclat, is Chanel’s Lift Lumiere. It is smoothing as it is rejuvenating and I really like how it works at perfecting the undereye area.

The dress I wore on that cover of Yes magazine is by Len Cabili, she who makes lovely designs that highlight Philippine artistry like embroidery, beading, and stitching. Len has really captured the art of embracing our heritage and always presents it in a contemporary way without compromising authenticity. You may call her at 09178611611.

For lovely cushion covers and sheets, you must check out the collection of John Robshaw, available at Ethan Allen. I am addicted to it, all the lovely prints that look best mixed, and the colors! The colors are so lovely! John Robshaw prints in your home are enough to make you want to always stay home.

Ballet flats are tutu chic

Dear Ms. Tingting,

What’s with the ballet flat shoes?

Sherry

Though it will never have the transformative power of the high heel, a ballet flat is chic, young, and timeless in its own right. It is simple and girlishly elegant, and it remains one of the few flat shoes that the fashion world has adopted and adored. And it’s comfortable!

The ballet flat has always had its fair share of famous fans. I, for one. And it has become the get-a-pair for those times when a heel is out of the question. Repetto is the classic, French original, but many companies make good versions, especially in Florence, Italy. For a high-end pair, try Chanel (two-tone color with the black toe) or Lanvin. For a more inexpensive option, check out Gap, J. Crew, H&M.

Though you cannot go wrong with a black pair, consider something colored. They’re fun. Look for a bright color, or a skin to make your feet almost bare-looking.
