Mikaela Hahn blends the graceful with the radical

MANILA, Philippines - The graduating fashion design students of LaSalle College International-Manila (LCI-Manila) recently presented their collections at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

The theme of the show was “The Contemporary Filipiniana,” focusing on designs inspired by our own culture and tradition. The show featured all-original creations by the graduating class, which boast the highest standards of accuracy, exact measurements and precise cutting patterns.

The concept was clear: to showcase fresh fashion ideas and new twists on classic themes, as well as to introduce exciting experimentations on texture, fabrication, and youthful takes on color.

LCI-Manila fashion design graduates included Athena Colico-Tandoc, Patricia Santos, Sonja Lehmann, Mikaela Hahn, Phuong Doan, Margarita Regala, Engie Ness Garcia, Kristine Bautista and Noelle Miranda.

According to one of the designers, Mikaela Hahn: “The inspiration for (my) collection was taken from a period in Philippine history when the nation was scorned and bruised from the oppression of the colonizers — hence the colors of the collection centered on black and blue. Although it may not be apparent, the inspiration also shows itself in the subtle details, the colors, and the choice of fabric.”

The show was directed by renowned fashion designer Gerry Katigbak, who is also part of the LCI-Manila faculty along with designers Edgar Mendoza and Dax Bayani, among others.
