MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) spearheaded the 2013 South Luzon Cluster S&T Fair and Exhibits at The Venue at Sky Ranch in Tagaytay City last Sept. 12 to 14.
Dubbed “Science, Technology and Innovation: Drivers of Change for a Smarter South Luzon,†the three-day event was aimed towards raising public understanding of science and technology and disseminating information about DOST’s role and contribution to national development.
The program included a mobile applications contest for application developers, an exhibit featuring over a hundred technology systems and products, an ICT-based quiz for high school and college students, a technology forum, and a press conference with DOST Secretary Mario Montejo, among others.
“We are complementing innovation with professional-grade equipment and machines that are faster and more efficient. Our research and development institutes are refocusing their strategies to conducting not just applied studies but also those which are market-driven, a sort of technology foresight,†says Montejo, highlighting the role of local small and medium enterprises in economic development.
The participants were inventors, researchers and students from the areas of DOST regional offices in the South Luzon region namely Regions 3, NCR, 4A (CALABARZON), 4B (MIMAROPA) and 5.
Serving as home to this year’s science and technology fair, The Venue at Sky Ranch is located beside the Taal Vista Hotel along the Aguinaldo Highway in Tagaytay.
