MANILA, Philippines — What makes people “short”? Do shorter leaders have Napoleon Complex? Are shorties also small down under? How do you add inches to your height? Deal with bullies? Are short men romantic or just cute?

“Short Alpha Males: Inspiring Studies, Tips & ‘Short’ Stories” offers no-holds-barred answers to “crazy short problems,” with surprises about the vertically-challenged. Read studies such as a World Health Organization article on why shorter men live long and healthy. Take heed from scientists and experts, and cues from nature, short animals and evolution.

For guys 5-foot-8 and under, “Short Alpha Males” lists a who’s who of fellows who hit the tall glass ceiling, from Michael Bloomberg to Muggsy Bogues, to Vladimir Putin. Heroes and politicians, billionaires and gigolos, athletes and artists, sinners and saints – it’s a small world after all.

Written by lawyer Nicolo Bernardo, “Short Alpha Males” is available at Central Books Supply, a participant at this year’s Manila International Book Fair (MIBF). Slated on September 12 to 16 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City, the 39th MIBF will again open two floors of exhibit space.

MIBF will have over 100 exhibitors, ranging from local indie publishers to big bookstore chains. With an expected 150,000 visitors for this year’s fair, MIBF has again dedicated the second floor to special exhibitions featuring children’s and young adult book publishers, including digital publications.

Highlighting this year’s five-day affair are book signings, book launches, meet and greets, storytelling sessions for kids, special contests, workshops, and other activities.

The first “POP HUB: Comic Splash x Fandom Fest Vol. 1” will be held at the MIBF on September 15 and 16 at the SMX Function Room 3. Some of the country’s largest “fandoms” – Fight Saber, a Lucasfilm-recognized worldwide costuming organization; Philippine Garrison, the local organization of the international 501st Legion; Philippine Tolkien Society; and Hamilton Philippines, among others, will come together with renowned comic book creators, artists, writers, and collectors for a weekend of fun and fellowship.
