“Cezanne’s Peaches”

MANILA, Philippines - Mia Herbosa presents “The Essential Invisible,” which opens on May 22 at Ayala Museum ArtistSpace, Ayala Center, Dela Rosa St., Makati City.

“It has been my lifelong pursuit to find that essence of nature that is truth in itself,” says Herbosa. “To understand by careful observation the beauty hidden in man and in the nature of things — that which he eats or uses to live by... that which surrounds him and makes up his world.”

She says it is this innate curiosity to find out the soul of things that drives her to capture what it is she sees with her eyes and feel with her heart and to paint it onto canvas or wood; or pencil it into paper with graphite and dust.

“Analyzing sight and its effect with different mediums in a concerted effort also allows a me a chance to love and care for that innermost part of me — that which seeks expression and creation. And so, my life has become an effort to distill paths of light dispelling darkness, understanding the nature of color harmony and beauty and how arrangements of things combine to bring this harmony and balance in life as well. It has brought with it an acceptance to work with life in a dance that is a love song between my soul and nature to which it truly belongs.”
