'Japan Night' at Dusit Thani

MANILA, Philippines - The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with Travelife magazine, recently indulged guests to a memorable preview of the many sights, sounds and tastes of Japan with “Japan Night.”

Ambassador Toshinao Urabe and Madame Etsuko Urabe welcomed guests to this event. Ambassador Urabe encouraged, in his opening remark, visit to Japan, by saying Japan Night was “…just a preview of what Japan has to offer, and more discoveries lie ahead. The many sights, sounds, and tastes of Japan are waiting for you.”

Dusit Thani’s Ballroom A was transformed into a Japan wonderland, adorned with dainty flowers and a red Japanese bridge amidst an artificial pond and landscape.  In addition, photos featuring traditional crafts, tourist spots, festivals and recovery in the Tohoku region were put on display. Videos of Japanese culture and scenery were projected on screens, and live koto (Japanese harp) music also played soothingly in the background. But the true centerpiece of the event was the live performance of two maiko (young geisha) from the Yamagata Prefecture.

“Japan Night” was supported by Dusit Thani Manila, Transnational Diversified Group World, Japan Airlines (JAL), Canon Corporation, Globe Platinum, Asian Food Channel (AFC), Living Asia, SC Viscarra, Toyota Motor Philippines, Japan Tobacco, Inc., Arthaland, PIDO, and Philippine Wine Merchants.
