MANILA, Philippines - Photo above shows the old Cathedral of Basco built in 1795. The old stone church has been renovated by the current bishop. The Basilica’s facade has always been the model of the other three old churches in Batanes — The Church of San Carlos Borromeo in Mahatao, 1787; the San Jose Church in Ivana, 1795; and the San Vicente Ferrer Church of Sabtang in 1844. These churches are the subjects of Mandy Navasero’s Batanes Photo Safari’s architectural studies.
