‘21 Women’ at Mag:net Katipunan

MANILA, Philippines – In celebration of International Women’s Month, Mag:net highlights the cherished creations of women contemporary artists who coiled, bent and smashed through the margins of social structures in “21 Women,” which is on view until March 30 at Mag:net Katipunan, 335 Agcor Bldg., Katipunan Ave., Loyola Heights, QC.

‘2011 Walong Filipina sa Ngalan ng Kalikasan’ at Liongoren Gallery

Liongoren Gallery pays tribute to eight exemplary Filipinos, each doing their work for the environment in “2011 Walong Filipina sa Ngalan ng Kalikasan: Parangal sa mga Alagad ng Kalikasan,” which is on view at Liongoren Gallery, New York, Cubao, QC.

Walong Filipina (Eight Filipinas), an annual project of Liongoren Gallery, has shown the works of close to a hundred women artists and other notable women from various disciplines.

The show honors the works of Gonzalo Catan, inventor and advocate of organic products; Dr. Metodio Palaypay, zero-waste managerment expert; Fr. Alfredo Albor, forest conservationist; Lutgardo Abad, cultural worker; Col. Romeo Magsilos, Marikina chief of police, “No to Plastic” campaigner; Andy Orencio, artist and gardener; Dr. Warlito Laquihon, agriculturist; and Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan, former Health secretary and herbalist.

The eight women artists who will pay tribute to them are Lena Cobangbang, Marika Constantino, Marina Cruz, Hermogena Borja “Nene” Lungay, Goldie Poblador, Jeannie Tan, Josie Tionko, and Pam Yan-Santos.

‘More than Friends’ in Shanghai

Hamzah Marbella and select child artists across China hold “More than Friends: Philippines and China @ 35,” which opens on April 3 at the Children’s Palace in Shanghai. The show runs until April 10.

At 10, Marbella is the youngest member of the Art Association of the Philippines. The artist won the top prize (youth category) in South Korea’s postage stamp contest in Seoul and a United Nations art competition in New York City.
